BuzzSouthAfrica learnt that a Ward Councillor was dragged to the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court for rape and robbery.
Gauteng police confirmed that the Ward Councillor was facing four charges of rape and robbery.
According to the police, the Ward Councillor was charged for the crimes before he was elected a Councillor.
Meanwhile, a 61-year-old practicing attorney who pleaded guilty to 33 charges including fraud, theft and money laundering is waiting to receive his sentence from the Kimberley Regional Court come 4th April 2017.
The attorney, Henry Coetzee was practicing in Kimberley between March 2001 and November 2010. Within the period, he embezzled almost 4 Million Rand from various victims he represented on their property purchases, civil matters and road accident fund claims.
Commenting on the case, the Northern Cape Hawks Provincial Head, Major General Kholekile Galawe remarked thus:
“We welcome the guilty verdict and we also believe that the sentence will match the crimes that the convicted attorney committed.” Galawe added that Hawks members worked hard to ensure the attorney didn’t evade justice.
Also, information from the Independent Police Investigative Directorate has it that a police constable stationed at Norwood SAPS has been sentenced to 18 years.
As informed, it was yesterday that the Palmridge High Court sentenced the 29-year-old Constable for a murder crime that happened in Bedfordview.
While the High Court convicted the police constable of the aforementioned crime which occurred on 1st November 2016, it declared Constable MN Njeya unfit to possess a firearm.
“It is alleged that on 2016-01-11 at about 20:33, the accused was off duty seating with his flat mates consuming liquor. He then went to the bedroom to join his girlfriend now deceased (Ms Kelebogile Kwababa).
“It was further alleged that after a short while his flat mates heard the deceased screaming for help.
“A witness went to investigate, knocked on the door and no person opened for him. While the witnesses were standing outside the bedroom, they heard three gunshots coming from the bedroom.
“After a while the accused came out from his bedroom carrying a gun with his hand and instructed the witnesses to stand back or away.
“The paramedics and the police were called and the deceased was certified dead at the crime scene,” IPID narrated.
The police constable was subsequently, arrested by Bedfordview SAPS officials and his service pistol confiscated. IPID then investigated the murder case and recommended prosecution which led to the conviction of the police constable.
