Multi-talented Hollywood star Selena Gomez has revealed that the reason for her absence for the most part of summer was because she had to undergo a kidney transplant.
The singer took to Instagram on Thursday to tell her 126 million followers that she spent last summer in recovery after getting a new kidney.
“I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of,” she wrote.
In the lengthy post, the Fetish hitmaker opened up about her health condition. According to her, she found out she needed the kidney transplant due to her Lupus.
The 25-year-old went on to thank her family and team of doctors for looking after her before and after the surgery. She also revealed that her kidney donor was one of her best friends Francia Raisa.
“There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis.”
The post featured a picture of Selena and her donor holding hands and smiling in hospital beds. There are also pictures of the scar she got as a result of the surgery.

Despite the major surgery and recovery, Gomez released two more singles this summer, Bad Liar and Fetish. However, it was obvious she wasn’t out promoting the tracks, an elusion which can be attributed to her operation.
