Information from the South African Police Service (SAPS) says the KwaMsane Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit and members of the KwaMsane Tactical Response Team have apprehended SA’s most wanted serial rapists.
As informed, the 34-year-old suspect was arrested in the Jozini CBD.
His DNA linked him to 13 cases of rape. SAPS related that the crimes were committed in Umkhanyakude, uThungulu and Zululand areas between 2012 and 2016.
Already, the suspect has appeared before the KwaMsane Magistrates Court. He was remanded in custody and will get to appear before the court again on 25 October 2016.
Another 34-year-old serial rapist was arrested by the Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit and KwaDukuza Family Violence.
The suspect was nabbed at KwaDukuza taxi rank. SAPS narrated that “he was caught with the help of the community who blew the whistle that he is wanted for charges of rape.
“He was linked to six counts of rape reported at Ntshawini, Tete, Tinley Manor and Umhlali areas this year. The suspect was taken to hospital under hospital guard after he was assaulted by the members of the community.
“His modus operandi was to promise the victims jobs and lure them to a secluded area where he would threaten them with knife and a firearm before raping them.”
Confirming the arrests, KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa praised the crime fighting unit for working smart to apprehend the suspects.
“We appreciate the help of the community in apprehending the criminals. However, we are warning them not to take law into their own hands.
“We strongly condemn the acts of vigilantism, if the culprit is apprehended, the police must be contacted,” Langa stated.
Thereafter, he appealed to other victims of the serial rapists who have not reported to the police, to come forward.
