Robbers Kill Father And Son In Their Joburg Home Over Cellphones

An unfortunate encounter with robbers has claimed the lives of both father and son while they were resting in the comfort of their home.

In the early hours of Thursday morning, in a home in Azaadville, west of Johannesburg, a 65-year-old man was shot dead on the spot by three robbers while his 29-year-old son sustained multiple gunshot wounds police said.

The young man who initially survived the attack later died in the hospital as a result of his injuries.

“At about 03:00 on Thursday, three robbers entered the home of Haroon Saleh and shot both him and his son Yusuf,” police spokes person Sibiya said.

The heartbreaking part of it is that the intruders stole only cellphones and ended two lives in the process.

According to Sibiya, the older man Haroon suffered wounds to the upper body which was fatal as he was declared dead on the scene.

His son Yusuf on the other hand was airlifted to the Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital, where he later gave up the ghost as a result of the wounds he sustained during the attack.

Arresting the robbers might have gotten easier because Yusuf was able to use his last strength to divulge some useful information to the police on what the robbers looked like.

“Before the son passed on, he told police that the one robber is of coloured origin. It makes it a bit easier to track the robbers down. The police are doing all they can to catch the robbers,” Sibiya said.

Sibiya expressed that it is still not clear to the police how the suspects had fled the robbery scene.
