Following the sudden and dramatic exit of Oros Mampofu from Skeem Saam, rumours broke loose that the popular actor was fired.
The show’s publicists Percy Vilakazi rubbished the rumours that Oros was fired from the local soapie as a result of laziness and lack of commitment.
What appears to be a sarcastic blog alleged that Oros’ character on the Skeem Saam, Jama, was pushed aside on the basis of laziness.
It was alleged that the actor would send his twin brother, Prince to replace him whenever he feels too lazy to show up at the studio.
However, Percy revoked the speculations, adding that the twins are not so identical for Prince to act on Oros’ behalf.
Percy went ahead to correct the impression that Oros is lazy as he said “Oros is one of the hardest working actors I know.”
”The rumours are silly, because Prince and Jama are not that identical. It’s easy to tell the difference between them. Besides, we are not that stupid.”
He threw more light on the character Oros played on the show and he was chosen for the spot.
“We needed a student that was going to die of alcohol poisoning, that was the storyline, because Skeem Saam is an educational show, and this came in as an effort to raise social awareness. Oros was then cast. He was amazing, and we loved him. We got so attached to him that we ended up extending his stay. However, he’s always known at some point that his character was going to die.”
“At the end of season three, we had Lelo burning down a house. So, at the end of season four, we decided that this is the right time for Jama to die,” he said.
As Skeem Saam’s scriptwriter, Percy revealed that Jama’s storyline was already laid out before Oros Mampofu was even casted.
