The case against nine men accused of raping a thirteen-year-old girl in a shack in Nyanga has been postponed to February.
BuzzSouthAfrica gathered that the men gang raped the teen on November 11 after she was abducted by one of them. The teen was abducted while she was walking alone on Robert Sobukwe Road around 20:00.
The man then took her to a shack where he and other eight men gang raped her repeatedly. She was then held overnight and released the next day.
The suspects, whose ages are between 18-20, appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court this week, where they submitted affidavits to the state requesting to be granted bail. The State is expected to respond to their application in February.
Again, the SAPS in Limpopo arrested a well-known traditional healer earlier this month for raping a teenage girl at GaMarishane village. The 43-year-old healer had disappeared immediately he learned about the case but was nabbed after the police launched a serious manhunt.
SAPS Limpopo spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe explained:
“It is alleged that the 16-year-old girl went to this traditional healer’s home for a traditional medical consultation. As part of the consultation, she was given traditional medications to drink and subsequently she felt dizzy and the suspect took her to a room where he raped her.”
The healer has since appeared in the Nebo Magistrates’ Court on a charge of rape.
Earlier this year, Johannesburg metro police confirmed the arrest of six out of ten men for hijacking and kidnapping two men and a 16-year-old girl and subsequently gang raping the teenager.
SAPS Spokesperson in Joburg, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar, related that the men raped the teen in full view of other two victims before abandoning them at an undisclosed location in Soweto.
The police immediately launched a manhunt after a renowned car tracking company released a high intelligence information on their whereabout. Six of them were arrested at the scene while the other four fled the scene.
The six, aged between 26 and 30, have since appeared in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on charges of hijacking, kidnapping and rape.
