Afropunk Festival 2017: Nandi Madida Named Host

Nandi Madida will be the maiden host of the first ever Afropunk Festival in Africa which comes up by the end of this year.

The South African presenter will anchor the event which will take place on Saturday, 30 December and Sunday, 31 December respectively. Big shots in the music industry including Solange Knowles, Laura Mvula, Anderson .Paak, plus a slew of other acts are lined up as headliners.

Nandi posted about the hosting duties on Tuesday morning saying: “What a way to ring in the new year! I’ll be hosting the first-ever edition of #AFROPUNKFEST in Africa on 30&31 December 2017 . AFRICA let’s show the world how we Celebrate! Thank you @Afropunk for choosing an unapologetically proud African Lady to be your host and make history. (sic)”

Nandi is clearly estactic to grab the mic and address thousands of festival-goers to celebrate art, music, fashion and culture at Johannesburg’s Constitutional Hill.

Madida said: “I am particularly ecstatic and honoured to be hosting Afropunk because it is not only a festival but a movement. A movement that I have followed for many years, one that encouraged me to go out there and be unashamedly myself in a world that is constantly trying to make us conform to certain social norms.

“And now it’s happening in the centre of all things ‘Afro’ – that is insane!”

The Afropunk festival has long been known by the public as an advocate for cultural change and serving its primary audience. The festival has been described as a multicultural melting pot open to everyone. Tickets are available through, nutickets and selected Edcon outlets.
