BuzzSouthAfrica has confirmed Marius Fransman’s resignation from the Western Cape legislature.
Western Cape ANC confirmed this saying he resigned from his position in the Western Cape Legislature but is still a member of the ANC.
Fransman’s resignation follows the Western Cape High Court rule against his application to stay away from appearing before the Western Cape Legislature’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa).
It was in 2014 that Scopa summoned Fransman and Pierre Uys to answer questions regarding the abnormalities of an Auditor-General’s report.
At the gathering, Scopa charged Fransman and Uys to account, and justify the billions of rand spent by the Western Cape government on consultants within three years.
Fransman and his colleague failed to give any meaningful response. Instead, they demanded that the meeting be postponed.
The DA members of the Public Accounts committee objected to the call for adjournment, Fransman and Uys disrespect the gathering and left.
Reporting this, EWN related that Fransman took the case to the Western Cape High Court after the committee insisted they explain the huge amount spent on consultants.
However, the court couldn’t find any reason to okay Fransman’s application. It thus, dismissed the application and order Fransman to pay the legislature’s legal costs.
Fransman was only reinstated in July as the ANC provincial party leader after he was asked to step aside following a sexual harassment scandal.
As it happened, one Louisa Wynand alleged that the ANC Western Cape chairperson sexually harassed her during a journey to the North West for the ANC birthday rally in Rustenburg.
The 20-year-old lady as detailed in a previous report, met Fransman and was offered a position as his personal assistant.
Fransman asked the lady to accompany him to Rustenburg where she was allegedly forced to share a bed with Fransman who wrapped his arms over her, touching her inappropriately.
Already, speculations and insinuations striving to ascertain the true reason behind Fransman’s resignation are being circulated.
To some, Fransman’s resignation is the handiwork of his detractors in ANC. To others, he’s just trying to save himself from drowning in the ugly deeds of his political career.
BuzzSouthAfrica has approached Fransman for a statement, the update will come your way soon.
