Earlier reports said that Carey had “demanded that Table Mountain’s lights be switched on and shine purple during her performance.”

Meanwhile, an insider with the TMG Entertainment has confirmed that even though such a request was mentioned by the singer, it was certainly not a demand. “She mentioned that it would be nice if the lights were turned to purple in memory of Prince.”

Another source added “It wasn’t dramatic. It was an enquiry”

Yet, after all said and done, noon has come and gone and there was no formal application nor an approval process implemented for this request on Table Mountain lights which spokesperson for the City of Cape Town‚ Priya Reddy‚ says is a lengthy process.

“The technical approval of the application would be done by the Electricity Services Department. The application would also have to be approved by the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Utility Services and‚ if necessary‚ the Executive Mayor would be consulted. The relevant departments within the City of Cape Town have not yet received such an application.”
