In Johannesburg, Police have arrested a KwaZulu-Natal gardener who allegedly strangled his employer to death in his home after a dispute broke out between them.
The 67-year-old gardener who allegedly strangled his 65-year-old employer was arrested on Thursday following the murder of Nadarajan Nayager at his home on Orient Drive, Isipingo, the previous day, Major Thulani Zwane said.
“His hands were tied and he had multiple injuries on his body.”
The incident took place on Tuesday 12th January after an argument broke out between the suspect and his 65-year-old employer.
It was believed Nayager had an argument with his gardener, who allegedly tied him up and beat him to death then strung him up before fleeing the crime scene with the victims cellphone.
He was arrested in Malakazi, near Isipingo, and Nayager’s cellphone was recovered.
Later that day, the deceased was found tied up in his home with multiple injuries sustained during the struggle.
The police spokesperson Thulani Zwane says the suspect is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrates Court on Monday 18th January 2016.
“It is alleged the man was working at the Isipingo area when he approached his employer, they had an argument and he strangled the old man to death”.
The reasons behind the argument and strangling are yet to be revealed as investigations are still going on.
Employers are sternly warned, when you employ anyone to work for you especially at your home, ensure that you make necessary inquiries on the person to know the kind of person he or she is and most importantly know exactly where they came from plus family background.
