It’s general knowledge that SA’s self-proclaimed Gqom queen Babes Wodumo has scored several nominations in prestigious awards without walking away with an award.

Accordingly, she has bagged a total of five nominations at the upcoming South African Music Awards (SAMAs). While she has been working tirelessly to campaign for votes, the talented singer and dancer says she will not enter award shows anymore if she does not win at the Samas this year.

The Gqom queen Babes Wodumo reportedly said she arrived at this decision after failing to win a single award at the Metro FM Awards earlier this year despite being the most nominated artist with four nominations. Besides, her music was like the national anthem, like everyone knows her.

In view of the above, Bongekile (Babes Wodumo) Simelane said she would follow in rapper Cassper Nyovest’s footsteps and stop submitting her music for nomination at awards because she believes they are unfair.

“I am obviously happy to be nominated, but I don’t have that over-excitement anymore. I even said to my team if we don’t win an award this time, I am not entering awards anymore,” she told Sowetan.

Apparently, her experience at the Metros got her so pissed. Now, she and her fans have decided that this is it. If they don’t take home any award this time, they are done.

“The awards are not the same anymore because people are playing unfair now, even with the Metro FM awards my fans were complaining, saying they danced to my songs all year and now they got snubbed,” she added.

The 16th Metro FM Awards hogged the headlines following controversial comments about how deserving artists did not win any award. Particularly, fans were surprised that Babes did not win in any of the categories she was nominated in.

Hopefully, she will get some love from the SAMAs which will take place at the Sun City Superbowl on May 27.
