Breaking News: Court Dismisses DA’s Application To Block Cabinet Reshuffle

Court Dismisses DA’s Application: The Western Cape High Court has dismissed an application brought by the Democratic Alliance to halt Zuma’s cabinet reshuffle.

The DA had filed papers in the Western Cape High Court on Friday morning seeking an urgent interdict to stop the swearing of new ministers as the furore around the Cabinet reshuffle gathers momentum.

Delivering judgement on the matter, Judge Rogers pointed out the following:

  •  DA’s application consists of conclusions rather than facts.
  •  DA can launch a judicial review of Zuma’s decision
  •  Costs should be reserved for decision in the review.
  • It won’t be right for the court to intervene in President Zuma’s prerogative base on the DA’s case.

Going with the above, Judge Rogers dismissed the opposition party’s application.

Meanwhile, Former minister and partner of late struggle veteran Ahmed Kathrada‚ Barbara Hogan on Friday reacted to the cabinet reshuffle, saying President Jacob Zuma has gone rogue.

Hogan described the development as a “dastardly deed done in a dark corner of the country” and said she was disappointed with Zuma.

“If this was the presidency that was listening to the sentiments of this country‚ the funeral service of Mr Kathrada alone would have alerted them to the high emotions.

The president is completely willing to push ahead with his own postal agenda. Surely they could have held off‚ just a while‚ out of respect for Kathrada‚” said Hogan.
