Bob Mabena Lambastes Ellen Degeneres Over Usain Bolt Meme

American TV host Ellen DeGeneres has been pummeled for sharing a picture of herself riding on Usain Bolt’s back on the social media.

Ellen posted the meme on her TVshow’s Twitter page this week and captioned it “This is how I’m running errands from now on. #Rio2016.”

As expected, the image soon went viral with mixed feelings erupting from fans, especially the black community. Critics labelled the picture “insensitive” and “racist.”

Meanwhile, local radio legend Bob Mabena joined the chorus by frowning at the picture. He went as far as posting a copy of it on his Instagram, condemning it as “stupid” and an “offensive lapse in judgement.”

“@theellenshow I wouldn’t go so far as to call her racist for this stupid picture. Let’s call it offensive lapse in judgement. Sorely disappointed at Ellen,” he wrote.

Bob who got more agitated over the picture following further debates, added that the timing was too sensitive. The Marikana massacre had just been commemorated. In addition, there has been a lot of “prejudice at the Olympics against black athletes.”

Bob described the picture in a very literal manner for fans who questioned his attitude towards it.

“It’s not just a picture. Look closer and think like a liberated & conscious black person,” he said.

“It doesn’t matter what the caption says. The picture is that of a smiling white madam riding a black man like a mule. Surely you can see the insensitivity in this depiction. Surely,” he explained to another follower.

Subsequntly, when a follower gave him the option to “chill”, Bob made a solemn promise to always look out for “white ignorance”

“I will never chill on this dismissive and insensitive white ignorant approach to our past as black people. Never ever ever. They always remind us of the holocaust. I will always be on the lookout for their ignorance of how they have always and continue to treat black lives as joke. I will never chill but I respect your right to feel the need to understand, molly coddle, smile, grin and chill,” he declared.

Nevertheless, Ellen DeGeneres has denied the fact that she is racists.
