Best University In Africa: See Which SA Varsity Tops The List

Despite all the violent protests that have rocked the university system in recent times, the University of Cape Town (UCT) still stands as the best University in Africa and this leaves people wondering why.

No doubt, South Africa is not just a suitable environment for business growth and recreations, it is one of the best countries suitable for learning. With its over 50 accredited universities, it is surprising how the university of Cape town stands apart from all its counterparts in the country and even in Africa as a continent.

According to a recently released ranking by Times Higher Education World Reputation, the university of Cape town stands as the best university in Africa and the 120th in the world.

The ranking was made following the evaluation of  universities based on their teaching, research and knowledge transfer and UCT’s top scores were for its income from industry, citations and international outlook.

“These are a reflection of UCT’s strong record of and emphasis on research and academic excellence, we are also pleased to be ranked fourth in the Brics and emerging economies category,” said spokesman Elijah Moholola.

Earlier this year, UCT became the first African university in the International Alliance of Research Universities. It is the first new member in the strategic partnership since the alliance was formed 10 years ago.

Students both locally and internationally, take UCT as their best choice of university not only because of the above name educational qualities, but also because of its beauty.

Michael Sanne, a third year student on the Electrical and Computer Engineering degree at the University, said: “I chose UCT because I found it to be the most beautiful of the universities that I saw in SA.”

“Academically I have been challenged more than I expected but have learnt many very interesting things that are relevant on a daily basis.”
