Afrikan Roots Members Survive A Ghastly Car Accident


Many members of the popular Afro-house group Afrikan Roots barely escaped with their lives after they got involved in a ghastly car accident on Friday.

The car crash happened on the A1 highway in Botswana about 850km from Gaboroneon while they were headed to maun Festival in Maun to perform at the event.

The car they were travelling in somersaulted four times, and in the process, four out of the five members of the group were seriously injured.

The founder and leader of the Afrikan Roots group Kenneth “Nyekx” Manyemula explained the circumstances that led to the accident from his hospital bed in Botswana, saying they encountered a strong wind that pushed their trailer, which overpowered the car causing it to roll on the road.

“Some of us escaped through the windows. We were rushed to a nearby hospital and we hope to be released [on Tuesday],” he said.

Manyemula said they left South Africa Thursday night and reached Gaborone at 1am on Friday before continuing their trip to Maun.

The other members of Afrikan Roots group are Katlego “Maspila” Mabasa, Bongumusa “Mosco” Mmotsa, Obakeng “Buckz” Ramoholi and Mercedes Boshego.

Their leader Manyemula said the car had seven occupants when the car accident causing many of them some head and body injuries. The injured were receiving treatment at Mahalapye Hospital.

Boshego escaped with a broken hand, both Manyemula and Mabasa sustained head injuries, while Mmotsa was left with injuries on his body. Ramoholi and the other two passengers were lucky to escape without any injuries.

The group ended up not performing at the festival that was scheduled to hold on Friday alongside artists like Arthur Mafokate and Ishmael. Both their car and the trailer were destroyed beyond repair.
