Renowned actress Winnie Ntshaba has scored a role on the upcoming fifth season of award-winning edutainment drama MTV Shuga.
During a media briefing in Johannesburg on Monday, the former Generations: The Legacy star was unveiled as one of the cast members for the popular TV series.
Ntshaba’s role on the show will be that of a hyper-religious mother (Neliswe) who does her best to care for her 15-year old daughter Khensani.
Ntshaba was unveiled alongside other actors including Given Stuurman; Ayanda Makayi; Stephanie Sandows and Samkelisiwe Makhoba.
The new members will join forces with previously announced cast members Vanessa Mdee; Clint Brink; Thuso Mbedu; Mohau Mokoatle Cele; Jezriel Skei; Emmanuel Ifeanyi Ikubese; Nick Mutuma and Adesua Etomi.
In addition, Kwesta and Nigerian singer Sheyi Shay will be making cameo appearances on the show’s fifth season‚ entitled Shuga: Down South.
The much-loved social drama series aims to impact positively on the lives of young people on the African continent. Often times, young people compromise their future because of the youthful exuberance that takes control of their actions sometimes. With this in mind and since its debut in 2009, the show has featured issues on HIV & AIDS across the continent including Kenya and Nigeria.
The new season on the show will be based in Johannesburg’s Braamfontein area and in a fictional version of Soweto called Zenezele. When asked about what she feels about her new role, Ntshaba said;

“I’m happy to be involved in a show that features actors from other parts of the African continent and a role that is educational.”
Fans should expect MTV Shuga on their screens across Africa from March 8 2017 on MTV Base (DStv channel 322). It will also be broadcast by the SABC.
