American comedian and TV/radio personality Steve Harvey alongside Yolanda Adams; Estelle and Kelly Price are heading to South Africa.
The American celebrities are coming down to SA for the first Essence Music Festival in Durban. The festival which takes place annually in New Orleans will now be extended to South Africa. Hence, the first Essence Festival Durban.
Essence President Michelle Ebanks said in a statement on the website;
“New Orleans and Durban are sister cities, and we are thrilled to present these sister festivals—both in 2016.”
“As Essence converges on Durban during South Africa’s beautiful summer season, we are creating a week-long experience that will inspire women globally and convene our communities across the diaspora.”
According to the Essence website, local musicians will join the American celebrities for the festival. The star-studded line-up of local celebs include: Thandiswa Mazwai; Black Coffee; DJ Zinhle; Big Nuz; as well as Babes Wodumo.
Famous for crowning the wrong contestant at the Miss Universe pageant last year, Steve Harvey will land on the shores of SA for the festival that will take place from November 8, 2016 to November 13, 2016.
The debut event will take place at the International Convention Center and Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban in November.
Steve and a host of other US stars, including singer/ songwriters Estelle and Kelly Price, will speak at the festival.
Meanwhile, award-winning singer/songwriter Yolanda Adams will be performing at the event’s All-Star Gospel Tribute. However, the festival which is an extension of the popular US Essence Festival held in New Orleans annually is not going to recognize only international stars.
Thus, the international stars will be joined by some of our hot local acts. The event promises to inspire more women than ever before.
