Corruption has no country; it lurks everywhere. Its only enemies are people who have decided to throw ‘him’ off with integrity and accountability.
As gathered, the Commanding Officer of the South African Army Signal Formation has been nabbed. The senior army general was arrested on Thursday.
This development was confirmed by the SA National Defence Force. Speaking via a statement, the SANDF said,
“Following a lengthy joint investigation between the Military Police and Defence Intelligence Divisions of the South African National Defence Force into alleged fraud and corruption activities‚ Brigadier General Leon Eggers‚ the General Officer Commanding SA Army Signal Formation‚ was arrested earlier today.
In addition, the Defence Force disclosed that “Brigadier General Eggers appeared in the Pretoria Commercial Crimes Court and is out on bail.”
However, the SANDF failed to comment further on the nature and details of the alleged crime. But reports had it that the senior army officer was arrested on fraud and corruption mess.
Recently, the DA alleged that SA’s Chief of National Defence Force (SANDF)‚ General Solly Shoke, spent R500,000 on a six-day trip to Cuba with his wife.
While the trip lasted, the luxuries included: Business class tickets for the general and his wife; 5-star accommodation in Havana; An Audi A6 to drive around in.
DA’s Marais condemned the excessive luxury, stating that such is not necessary especially when Treasury has been working round the clock to implement austerity.
The South African Army Signal Formation is a formation/corps of the South African Army. It returned to the command of the South African Army from 1 April 2008 after it stood as the South African Corps of Signals.
