SAPS Administrative Clerk at Greytown Police Station was dragged to the Greytown Magistrate’s Court for corruption, fraud and defamation of character.
A media statement from Hawks said the SAPS Administrative Clerk identified as Andile Gwamanda (31) lured applicants to pay her a certain amount of cash so that she would manipulate the SAPS recruiting process for them.
“The victims paid various amounts of cash through money transfer transactions. (But,) were not appointed and they threatened an employee who is working in the HRM office.
A case of corruption was opened for investigation and Hawks members took over the investigation. After an intensive investigation, Gwamanda was arrested. She was remanded in custody and the case was postponed to 12 July 2016,” read the statement.
Meanwhile, a 42-year-old Councillor at the Leekwe Teemane Local Municipality in Bloemhof, was also arrested. This was after investigations linked him with a fake department employee.
The Councillor was roped in a plot to scam a 46-year-old woman awarded a R4.9 Million tender by the Department of Public Works in the North West to renovate schools in Bloemhof.
Before the woman knew that she had been awarded the tender, Teemane collaborated with Morena Soato (32) to defraud her.
Soato approached the woman pretending to be an employee of the Department of Public Works. He allegedly informed her that she was awarded the R4.9 Million tender and that he was sent by the Director of Public Works to deliver her appointment letter. And then, requested a R34 000 donation which he claimed was for the Department.
The woman paid. But then, learnt the letter she had in her possession was fraudulent and that the person she had given the money to was not an employee of the department.
The Councillor will appear before the Bloemhof Magistrate court today for a formal bail application. Soato will also appear at the Potchefstroom magistrate court tomorrow for further investigation.
