BuzzSouthAfrica learnt that a 46-year-old Police Constable has been sentenced to five years imprisonment for attempted murder.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) secured the conviction against the Police Constable stationed at Mayville police Station, in Kwa-Zulu-Natal.
As alleged, the complainant Sandile Sydney Zubane was walking the road when he encountered the off duty Police Constable, Mthokozisi Cele.
The Police Constable accused Zubane of breaking into his house. Thereafter, he fired a shot at Zubane and seriously injured him.
Divulging that Mr Zubane is now confined to a wheelchair as a result of the shooting, IPID narrated that their investigation led to the arrest of the Police Constable.
He appeared the Ntuzuma Magistrates Court and was sentenced to five years imprisonment after the court declared that he’s unfit to possess a fire arm.
Meanwhile, a 51-year-old Warrant Officer has been convicted of corruption and sentenced to three years imprisonment.
IPID secured the conviction against Warrant Officer Molokomme stationed at Pretoria West SAPS.
The Warrant Officer allegedly solicited R6000 from arrested suspects detained at Pretoria West holding cells.
According to IPID, Molokomme and “a bogus lawyer were paid an amount of R3000-00 to secure the release of the said suspects.”
After IPID investigated a case of corruption, Molokomme was charged with corruption and subsequently convicted by Pretoria Regional court.
“He was sentenced…to three years imprisonment which is wholly suspended for five years on condition that he is not found guilty of a similar offense during the period of suspension.
He was further ordered to compensate the complainant R3000.

(Also,)…he was sentenced to pay a fine of Nine Thousand Rand (R9000), three years of Correctional Supervision and Sixteen Hours of community service per Month.
(The community service) consist of cleaning duties to be performed at the school of the deaf at stipulated days and times,” Ipid related.
