As gathered from an IOL report, the police are trying to identify and arrest a man who abducted and raped two eight-year-old girls who missed the school bus that ought to have taken them home, and was left with no option but to walk home.
BuzzSouthAfrica learnt that the Grade 1 pupils were walking to their respective homes atEndlovini and Enkanini informal settlement in Khayelitsha from Injongo Primary School in the area when they met their misfortune.
The helpless girls allegedly met a man at about 7 and 8 pm. He lured them to his litha Park home, attacked and raped the lassies.
He dumped the kids at about 2am the next day in a dark street where someone walking-by found them and took them to the Lingelethu West police station. As reported, “the little girls have been left so traumatized they cannot say where exactly their attacker lives.”
Confirming the event, police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana disclosed that “a case of kidnapping and rape has been opened for investigation. No one has been arrested yet,” Rwexana added.
A bus drivers at the school told Daily Voice that one of the victims was his regular passenger. Stressing that he was not aware the girls were left behind, the buss driver commented that “It’s sad that these kids had to walk home. The problem is we have so many kids on board, a 60-seater bus can take up to 100 kids, and this makes it very difficult for us to note who is in and who is not.”
He further said that drivers used to have a list of the children boarding the bus. “I don’t know what happened with the list… Now teachers just come to the bus with the children according to their grades, and leave them with us.
Because we overload the children, some kids stand in the passage and that makes it difficult for us to check who is not in because they are not seated. It’s a sad thing that we have to operate like this, and we hope this can change.”
