There has been a belated apology from Lesiba Kekana, a Limpopo man who was convicted of the murder of his four sons by cutting their throats in the most bizarre manner.
37-year-old Lesiba Kekana told the High Court in Polokwane that he regretted the action he took against his sons. He was found guilty of four murder counts and one of assault by Judge Joseph Raulinga after he pleaded guilty to the charges when he made a court appearance on Tuesday.
“I want to apologise unreservedly for killing my kids‚ though I know that doing so will not bring the children back to life‚” he said.
During the court hearing, it was revealed that the Limpopo man Lesiba Kekana acted the way he did after conceiving suspicions that his wife may have had an affair outside their marriage.
The story behind the murder rage gradually unfolded when he visited his wife in Mamelodi on September 5 last year. There, he allegedly discovered two used condoms and one sealed inside a pit toilet which his wife denied knowing anything about.
Raging with anger‚ the man drove back o his home in Moletlane village in Zebediela where his sons were. And on that faithful morning on September 6, he took out a knife and slit the throats of his four children in cold blood.
Still consumed by rage with adrenaline pumping through his body, he then made the same move to cut his own throat and when he realised it was actually painful, he resorted to death by hanging with an electric cable inside his house.
He was rescued in the process of ending his miserable life the same spot where the bodies of the slain kids were lying in a pool of their own blood.
The boys who fell victim to their father’s rage- 13-year-old Bokang‚ 10-year-old Keneilwe‚ 6-year-old Hlologelo‚ and 4-year-old Lekgoledi were brutally murdered in a twinkle of an eye.
When Prosecutor Nozizwe Molepo asked Kekana why he killed his children instead of just ending his own life, Kekana responded that he thought the kids would suffer when he is gone.
