BuzzSouthAfrica learnt from the South African Police Service (SAPS) that two suspects were killed and four others in custody after a gun battle with SAPS members.
Among the four in custody, two were wounded in the shootout and are receiving treatment.
The incident happened this morning in Durban CBD.
SAPS related that the suspect first kidnapped the security guards who were on duty at one of the supermarkets in the CBD area and dropped at Isipingo area.
Thereafter, they forced entry into the premises and took an undisclosed amount of cash after cutting the safe open.
After the police was informed about the crime, they spotted a suspicious white Toyota Etios in the vicinity.
Approaching the vehicle, the suspects fired shots towards the SAPS members. They retaliated and caused the suspect to lose control of the vehicle.
“Two suspects were found dead inside the vehicle and the other two were wounded and taken to hospital for treatment,” SAPS narrated.
Two unlicensed firearms and electrical detonators were recovered.
“While the police were busy at the scene, they noticed another suspicious black VW Polo vehicle driving slowly passing the scene. The said vehicle was stopped and searched.
An unlicensed firearm, airtime vouchers and cash suspected to have been taken during the robbery were also recovered. Two more suspects were then arrested.
The arrested suspects are aged between 30 and 35. One of the deceased suspects is a police official stationed at Durban Flying Squad,” SAPS related further.
Just yesterday, BuzzSouthAfrica reported that investigation into house robberies, business robberies, and hijackings in Lwandle, Strand and Somerset West led to the arrest of SAPS members.
