South Africa’s popular house maestro Vusi (popularly known as DJ Duke Soul) has died. The legendary DJ passed away in his hometown, Kimberly on Sunday night. Duke’s illness started after he collapsed at O.R Tambo International Airport. Since then, he has been in and out of the hospital.
He was admitted in the hospital on April 1 before his demise last night. At the time of his admission, Major P requested Duke’s friends and loved ones on Facebook to pray for the musician.
Major P had posted on Facebook:
“I would like to ask you guys to pray and wish Duke Soul a speedy recovery as he’s in hospital. We love you Duke Soul Music family have a safe and awesome weekend.”
Speaking further from the hospital after Duke’s tragic demise, his cousin, Themba Sikhupelo‚ who fought back tears while speaking, recounted his relationship with Vusi. He said, “he was my brother. We started Duke Soul Productions together. I’ve known him for my whole life. It’s a very emotional time. We are taking his body to the morgue now.”
Also, the label’s Major P has confirmed DJ Duke Soul’s death. The confirmation was seen in a short message posted to the Duke Soul Productions Facebook page on Monday. The statement reads, “I’m sorry to announce that Duke Soul passed away this morning. He always loved the Duke Soul Music family very much. Let’s stay strong”.
Meanwhile, DJ Duke Soul’s fans and loved ones have expressed sadness and shock over the demise of the outstanding star. Many of the disheartened fans took to social media to pour out their emotions and also sympathize with the musician’s family.
