Too bad, the guys were involved in a burglary in Diep River. They were escaping with stolen household goods when they embraced their graves at the M3 highway near Constantia.
Reports have it that the crash happened as a result of a high speed car chase involving a private security company and the suspects.
Western Cape police confirmed the reports disclosing that three burglars died. And, that the accident caused traffic congestion in the highway.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Andre Traut narrated that the suspects drove their Toyota Corolla on the wrong side of the road and collided with two oncoming vehicles.
“Three suspects succumbed on the scene and one was admitted to hospital in a serious condition. The occupants of the other two vehicles (a mother and a child) in one vehicle and a (man) in the other, were admitted to hospital with minor injuries,” Traut related.
He added that stolen household goods were found in the suspects’ vehicle.
Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson told News24 that paramedics met a disturbing sight with overturned car in the middle of the road when they arrived the accident scene.
“On inspection of the vehicle on the side of the road, paramedics discovered four men lying trapped. Unfortunately, three men had already succumbed to their multiple, fatal injuries. Nothing could be done for them and they were declared dead on the scene,” Meiring said.
Adding that the fourth man sustained numerous injuries and was in a critical condition, Meiring divulged that three other patients, including a 5-year-old boy were found on scene.
“All these patients were found to have sustained minor to moderate injuries,” stated the spokesperson.
Meanwhile, Maxine Jordaan, the City of Cape Town traffic services spokesperson informed motorists that the M3 outgoing has been closed at Ladies Mile.
