Bull Terrier is a special dog class in the terrier family. The bull terrier originated from England and most bull terriers are black and white, white, brindle and white, or fawn in colour. Perhaps, you didn’t know that the bull terrier was originally developed in the 19th century as a fighting dog. Also, to checkmate the spread of vermin then and most importantly for the use of animal-based blood sports.
The bull terrier is also notable for its flat, “egg-shaped” head. They have a life span of 10 to 15 years and weigh between 35-75 pounds. They have distinctive small, dark triangular-shaped eyes. The bull-dog has other names like Bully, English Bull Terrier or Gladiator of the canine race.
Like Dwight D. Eisenhower rightly said “What counts is not necessarily the size of the dog in the fight; it’s the size of the fight in the dog”. Really, the size of Dexter’s fight out-weighed his physical size when he decided to nail the life of a cobra to a death cross.
Tracey Jacobs, a Cape town resident escaped bites from the deadly creature which crept into her garage unseen. News24 reported that Tracey wrote to Cape Town radio station KFM saying that the presence of the cobra was noticed when she removed her car from the garage last Friday.
She said her dog Dexter “immediately grabbed it and fought it out of the garage”.
“I can’t thank him enough for saving my life!” she told KFM. “He is such a fighter!”
After the heroic defeat by Dexter, report said that Tracey’s husband recognized the dead creature as a cobra. From Klipheuwel, the couple headed to Tygerberg Animal Hospital in order to save the drowning dog. Hitting the hospital “by the grace of God”, the bull terrier was apparently “blue and barely breathing”. Dexter’s recuperation was placed on probability.
However, expressing their joy hours after, Tracey and her husband said that the condition of the valiant dog has tremendously and steadily improved. They also stated that their bull terrier is back to his feet again. This positive development came after report said that his heart dropped and his kidney began to deteriorate. The dog must have experienced a bitter night.
Meanwhile, it is pertinent to let you know that the spitting cobra is naturally unique. Someone might ask “how?”. Yes! the venom of a spitting cobra measures up to 6 feet which is a flawless pace considering the nature of the creature. It’s first course of attack is usually spit. Now, what follows next after the spit, is a deadly attack on its victim’s eyes.
One deadly fact about cobra is the existence of their deadly hoods. The hood of a cobra is found at its neck and it is made up of skins connected to its lengthy ribs. Whenever they are angry, they spread their hoods. Also, each time a cobra lifts its scary head, it must have seen a predator or it is searching for food.
On a happy note, following Dexter’s gallant and courageous victory, many poured praises on him as his admirers took to the social media. Dogs are one of man’s greatest friends, companions and guards. They protect, defend, put many lives before theirs. No wonder Robert Wagne once said” “A dog will teach you unconditional love. If you can have that in your life, things won’t be too bad.”
