In this era of chaos and high crime rate, nothing beats the gruesome murder of a 72-year-old woman found dead in her home in Germiston with her body maimed. Her nose, ears and eyelashes were cut off for reasons best know to the murderers, Johannesburg police relates.
“Those are the parts that we could see were missing when we got there,” said Major Mac Mngomezulu form the police.
The police are yet to ascertain whether her attackers also raped her as the old woman found dead was discovered half naked. This will not come as a surprise considering the incessant cases of rape in the country.
“She was found half naked, but we are not sure whether she was also raped,” said Mngomezulu.
Meanwhile, there were no signs of forced entry into the house which suggests that it was either an insider or the door was actually open when the assailants made the move.
“What we can currently confirm is that her handbag as well as her two cellphones are missing,” Mngomezulu confirmed.
The old woman found dead also sustained a stab wound with a sharp object and was discovered by her son-in-law who came home around 15:00 and found her lying lifelessly.
Police are yet to arrest any suspect in the crime.
Meanwhile, the DA’s statement on Friday suggests that there will be no safe Easter for the residents of Port Elizabeth’s Northern suburbs as gangsterism continues to flourish.
Mayoral candidate Athol Trollip said Police Minister Nathi Nhleko should take the whole blame for this, considering the series of broken promises to deploy the police and the army in the bid to arrest the situation.
The police should strive to bring order and security to people especially this festive period, Trollip advised.
