SASSA Status Check Failed? Here is What To Do

SASSA status check sometimes fails when the applicant must have probably provided invalid details not found on the SASSA system.

There are many other conditions that might contribute to the failed status, and they are mainly related to failure to meet the SASSA application criteria. However, an applicant still has the opportunity to re-apply or update his or her information that has changed since submitting the initial application.

Reasons Why SASSA Status Check May Fail

Though it has been established that the failed status seen on the SASSA application check platform occurs when the information provided by an applicant is not registered on the SASSA system, some of the things that contribute to the failed status are as follows:

  • Incomplete application information
  • Data verification errors
  • Suspended or canceled grants
  • Incorrect bank account information
  • Technical issues with the SASSA status check website

What to Do If Your SASSA Status Check Failed

When the SASSA status check reads failed, it means that your application has failed to be processed. However, the applicant can re-apply or update any information that might have changed since the submission of the initial application on the SASSA website. To resolve the ‘status check failed’ error message, one can do the following:

  1. Verify that the bank account details linked to your SASSA account are correct. The South African Social Security Agency uses the information to process the payment. Hence, if you need to update your bank account details, you can contact SASSA and ensure that the information is valid.
  2. Verify that all data entered on the SASSA status check platform is accurate. It’s worth noting that the agency may be unable to process your grant if there are discrepancies in the data.
  3. Ensure that your application information is complete and up to date. If there is any incorrect information or missing information on your application, SASSA may not be able to process your application.
  4. Check if your grant has been suspended or canceled. The SASSA grant may be canceled or suspended, especially when the terms and conditions of the grant are not met.
  5. Check if the SASSA status check website is having any technical problems.

Identity Verification Failed SASSA Meaning

If you applied for the SASSA Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant and the status shows “Identity Verification Failed SASSA”, this means that the South African Social Security Agency discovered that the information you gave when applying for the grant, such as your name, surname, or ID number, could not be matched with your data at the Department of Home Affairs (DHA).

This mismatch is usually discovered during the process of verifying the details of the applicants by SASSA from DHA and other institutions such as NSFAS, UIF, SA Revenue Service, and banks. And if the identity verification failed, the SASSA grant application would likely be rejected.

What to Do about Identity Verification Failed SASSA Status?

If your SASSA identity verification fails, you can resolve the issue by updating your contact information on the SASSA website under the tab marked “request names and surname update.” Also, you can lodge an appeal on the website within thirty days if your application was rejected due to failed identity verification.

Beneficiaries are advised to appeal every month if their identity verification fails, or else the status will remain unchanged for the other months.

To submit an appeal for the SASSA SRD grant, the following steps should be taken:

Application for Reconsideration SASSA Failed?

After your application for the SASSA grant was declined, you can submit a request for reconsideration on the SASSA website under the “application for reconsideration.” Unfortunately, if the application was declined again, that would be the final decision. The applicant cannot appeal with the South African Social Security Agency or the Department of Social Development for the declined applications.

The reasons why the SASSA reconsideration application may fail include:

  • Existing SASSA grant: It means that the applicant was receiving a social grant during the reconsideration period.
  • Alternative income source identified: It means that the applicant has a balance of R624 or more in his or her bank account.
  • NSFAS registered: It means that applicant was receiving National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) funds during the reconsideration period.
  • UIF registered: It means that the applicant received a UIF payment during the reconsideration period.
  • Deceased record on DHA: It means that the applicant is registered as deceased on the Department of Home Affairs database.
  • Govt payroll registered: It means that the applicant was employed in a government institution during the reconsideration period.
  • Age outside range (<18): It means the applicant is under 18 years and thus does not meet the age requirement.
  • Age outside range (>60): It means that the applicant is over 60 years old and therefore, does not meet the age requirement.
