Roger Jenkins made his money from his illustrious career as a financier and banker. That career started in 1978 when he joined Barclays as a graduate trainee. He quickly showed his mettle and was able to land several promotions. By 1984, he was made the head of private replacements at the investment banking division of Barclays in New York.

Roger Jenkins left Barclays for an investment bank known as Kleinwort Benson in 1987. He spent seven years there and returned to Barclays once more in 1994. Even more importantly, he was able to save Barclays from being bailed out with public funds in late 2008. Jenkins attracted Middle East investors that pumped £7 billion into the bank.

He also helped the bank to sell off its asset management business, iShares, in a deal worth $13.5 billion. All this helped Barclays to avoid a public takeover.
