Sophie Belle Clapton’s dad is a music superstar. He is listed as a vocalist, composer, and guitarist. In fact, Eric has been dubbed as one of the greatest guitarists of our time.

Eric recently fell ill and had to cancel some scheduled shows. According to the announcement made through his official Twitter handle, the Legendary English musician was diagnosed with severe bronchitis, and he also suffers from peripheral neuropathy – a clinical condition that occurs as a result of damage to the nerves responsible for conveying messages between the brain, spinal cord, and the rest of the human body.

Eric Clapton shares his daughter, Sophie Belle Clapton, with his second wife, Melia McEnery. Born on February 1st, 1976, Melia is a native of Columbus, Ohio, in the United States. An American national, the mother of three comes from English, Irish, Korean, and Scottish roots.

Melia is a social activist who doubles as a graphic designer. She is in charge of running a charitable trust known as Turn Up For Recovery; this is an organization that leverages music to promote awareness about different kinds of addictions. Melia is also part of Crossroads Centre Antigua, where she serves in her capacity as an advisor.

Despite being the wife of a celebrity of Eric’s caliber, Melia prefers to stay off public scrutiny. However, she has been spotted gracing the red carpet with her husband on special occasions and prestigious award ceremonies.

Eric and Melia wedded in 2002 and welcomed their daughter, Sophie Belle Clapton, three years later in 2005.

The romantic duo met in 1999 in America’s movie capital, Los Angeles. Then, Eric, who had already hit 53, was working with BB King on an album while the then 22-year-old Melia was a student of graphic design.

Their first meeting occurred at a party organized by Giorgio Armani for Eric. Melia, who was working at the party, had strict orders not to try approaching the guest, nor was she allowed to engage them in conversation, but obviously, the warnings were not enough to deter her.

At some point in the party, Melia mustered up the courage to approach Eric for an autograph, and that was when they hit it off, and a romantic relationship ensued. Their dalliance thrived despite the three decades of age gap between them and the fact that both Melia and Eric’s parents frowned on the couple’s relationship.

There was a time Sophie Belle Clapton’s parents went their separate ways but later came back together and had their first child in June 2001. Following this, they decided to tie the marriage knot on the 1st of January 2002, with their wedding ceremony hosted at the Ripley, Surrey-based St Mary Magdalen Church. At the time of their wedding, Eric was 56 while Melia was 25.

She Has Four Siblings

Sophie has two biological sisters from her parent’s marriage as well as two half-siblings from Eric’s previous relationships. She shares the same parents with Julie Rose Clapton and Ella May Clapton. Julie was the one born before their parents’ wedding on the 13th of June 2001. She currently works in the movie industry as an actress and has recorded appearances in some of her dad’s music videos.

Sophie Belle Clapton’s second biological sister, Ella May Clapton, was born in the United States on the 14th of January 2003 – barely one year after Eric and Melia got married. Ella is attending a Cranleigh, Surrey-based public school called Cranleigh School.

Sophia’s half-sister, Ruth Clapton, is the oldest among the Clapton brood. Born on January 1st, 1985, Ruth is the product of Eric’s first marriage to Yvonne Kelly. Ruth’s birth was kept a secret from fans until she clocked six in 1991. Like their iconic musician father, Ruth is also a vocalist; she is currently married with children.

Sophia’s half-brother was a boy named Conor Clapton. Conor’s mother is an Italian model and actress, Lori del Santo, who had an affair with Eric Clapton. He had a tragic end at the age of four.

What Happened to Eric Clapton’s Son

The only son of Eric, Conor Clapton, died at the tender age of four. His death occurred on March 1999 following a fall from the 53rd floor of their New York apartment.

Reports said an excited Connor was running up and down in their apartment while waiting to be picked up by his dad. However, it happened that one of the windows was left open by a janitor, and he fell through it. The then four-year-old died on the spot. It was Connor’s death that inspired the legendary musician to write the hit track entitled Tears in Heaven.
