Rockwell Lloyd is the son of Lucy Liu, who was born on 27th August 2015. Lucy Liu’s Son, Rockwell, is 8 years old and has been in the limelight since his birth, thanks to the fame of his mother, who is an actress. 

Liu had her son as a single mother through surrogacy. She settled on this decision as while she really wanted to become a mother, her busy schedule did not allow for it. Since the birth of Rockwell, his mother has continued to bring him up as a single parent.

How Old Is Rockwell Lloyd?

It was on 27 August 2015 that Rockwell Lloyd was born, which means he is now 8 years old. He was born in Los Angeles, and it is also there that he is being brought up. Of American nationality and Asian roots, he is the first and only kid of his mom.

His mom was also born in the United States, but her parents, Tom Liu and Cecilia Liu were both born in China, and they have Chinese roots. They moved from Beijing to Shanghai and then later moved to the United States, where they met and got married in New York.

The identity of Lloyd’s father is not known as his mom decided that she wanted to have him via surrogacy, and she is now raising him as a single mom. The actress revealed that she is enjoying every bit of being a mother and is happy with the way her son is growing rapidly and also with her small family.

While Lucy is a public individual who shares tidbits about her kid, she keeps a better part of his life private. It is because of this that details about things such as his educational pursuits are hidden from the public. It was revealed in 2022 that he was a first grader, although the name of the school he attends is unknown.

What is known, however, is that Rockwell is enjoying his childhood in a happy and wealthy environment.

Why Did Lucy Liu Name Her son Rockwell?

After Lucy Liu revealed the name of her son, fans initially believed that the kid was named after her Charlie’s Angels (2000) co-star, Sam Rockwell, whom she was quite close to.

However, she later revealed that it was not so. According to the actress, she got the inspiration for the name from the name of a store, which she felt was a great name. Since seeing it, the actress kept it at the back of her mind.

The actress revealed that although she knew that many people would consider the name as a surname rather than the first, she still believes that some surnames are stronger than first names. She also made it known that she was not going to give her son a nickname but would allow him to grow up and select one for himself.

Rockwell Lloyd Was Born Through Surrogacy

Lucy Liu decided on gestational surrogacy for the birth of her kid. This means that she provided the egg, though the pregnancy was carried by another person who also gave birth to the baby for her.

Welcoming her baby when she was 47 years old, the actress revealed that she chose surrogacy because it was the best solution for her. She made it known that although she had always wanted to become a mother, her busy schedule may not allow her to go through the process, which was why she chose the option of surrogacy. She believes it is also a great way to support non-traditional families and help make it traditional.

At the moment, Lucy is enjoying the process of raising her kid alone for various reasons. For one, the actress made it known that she doesn’t always have to deal with another person’s opinions in raising her kid because there is a possibility that the other person may just be another toddler.

She is also grateful that the kid understands that families come in different shapes and sizes. Liu has revealed that she is always ready to answer whatever questions her son has. Also, she sits and talks with him about things such as how their days went and if he had any dreams the previous night.

According to Lucy Liu, being a single mother to her son is one of the best things that could have happened to her, and she takes her role of being a mother more important than anything else.

He Has No Sibling

For now, Rockwell Lloyd is being raised as the only child of his mother, as he does not have any siblings.

His mother has been in several relationships in the past, including with high-profile individuals such as George Clooney, Wladimir Klitschko, and Noan Gottesman. However, none of the relationships led to a marriage or even gave her any kids in the process. Her longest recorded relationships were with Will McCormack and Zach Helm, both of which lasted only two years before coming to an end.

More so, since having her son through surrogacy, the years-old actress has not made any revelations about being interested in having any more kids that way in order to give Rockwell a sibling or more.

What the kid has is the family dog, Apple, which quickly became his best friend and has been very gentle with him and very protective.

Rockwell Lloyd Is Already Getting Drawn Into Hollywood

For someone who was born to a mother who is famous as an actress and who is internationally recognized, Rockwell has a different lifestyle, and he is already getting more conversant with Hollywood.

He is doing this by joining his mother on movie sets such as the set of Elementary. More so, he also accompanies his mother to various industry events. One such was the unveiling of her Hollywood Walk of Fame Star in 2019, which he went with the Primetime Emmy nominated actress.
