His father is Ghanaian (name unknown) while his mother is an Afro-American lady who goes by the name, Sandra Nicco Annan. According to Nicco, his mum takes more credit for his upbringing and he has never stopped singing the praises of the woman who gave him life. Cruse was raised alongside a younger sister, Kellee Stewart.

Growing up in Detroit’s North End area, he attended Class Technical High School. From there, the aspiring actor joined Purchase College at the State University of New York to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre.

Nicco Annan Started Acting Professionally in 2011

Nicco Annan was barely 22 in 2011 when he commenced acting at a professional level; this was when he joined the cast of the short video, Stranger.

By 2014, he found his way into Los Angeles in pursuit of an acting career and that was when he landed the Bad Guy role in the television series, Smosh. Before the end of 2014, Nicco scored another role in Half Sisters as James Windsor.

He went on to appear in other productions like the 2015 Next Stop as John, Cheetah in August (2016) as Damion, August Ninth (2016) as Doctor, 2017 Demons as Therapist, and 2016 Shameless as Deacon Cook.

Before he scored his breakout role in the TV series, This Is Us as Mr. Davis, Nicco first worked as the series’ choreographer. He later acted in other projects like Snowfall, All About the Afterglow, and Little Cousin all in 2018.

From 2018 to 2019, the Afro-American was part of the cast of Claws. His 2019 project was The Witching Hour and in 2021, he appeared in Family Reunion.

Nicco scored his best-known role in 2020 on the set of the P-Valley television series where he breathed life into the character of Uncle Clifford. The series aired till 2022. He is now playing Jeff ‘Beatty’ Roy in the ongoing TV series, Served. This makes his acting gigs 17 in total.

His Journey with P-Valley started as Far Back as 2009

At the age of 20 in 2009, Nicco Annan wasn’t doing much when a friend of his recommended him for an upcoming role in the Katori Hall-produced play, Pussy Valley. After auditions, he was picked to depict a strip club owner, Uncle Clifford, which he later portrayed in the full production in 2015 at Mixed Blood Theatre, including several smaller runs.

It happened that Starz adapted the series on TV and Annan was called up to play Uncle Clifford in the television version of P-Valley, which premiered in 2020. The role earned him critical acclaim such as one of the Best TV Performances of 2020, and a nomination for the Independent Spirit Awards and the NAACP Image Awards.

Nicco Commenced His Dancing Career at a Young Age

Before he ever dreamed of venturing into acting, Nicco Annan was already dancing and had become a professional choreographer. The Afro-American actor became part of a dance troupe at the age of 17. He joined the Yale School of Drama as their choreographer in residence and has performed in several Broadway and off-Broadway theatre productions.

Nicco first joined This is Us TV show as a choreographer before earning acting roles on set. He also takes the credit for choreographing All American TV series. He also serves as a theatrical director at Motivating Excellence, a commercial dance training program in the United States, which provides students with the skills and knowledge required to become the ultimate commercial dancer in the entertainment industry.
