Elizabeth Flair Married Ric Flair in 1983, the Same Year That He Divorced His First Wife

Elizabeth Flair is not the last wife of Ric Flair, neither is she the first. Before their marriage, the wrestler had married his first wife, Leslie Goodman, on the 28th of August 1971. The union lasted up until the early 80s, when they started having issues. They later divorced in 1983, and he and Elizabeth wed that same year.

It was the marriage that catapulted Elizabeth to the spotlight. Before it, she was a relatively unknown personality, and as such, details about her early life remain scarce. Her exact date of birth is not available neither is her family background or childhood experiences. What is, however certain is that she is American by nationality and Caucasian by ethnicity.

Her original name at birth was Elizabeth Ann Harrell before she now met and married Ric Flair and got his famous last name. It is unknown exactly how Elizabeth and Ric first met each other or when they started dating. It is possible that their romance commenced while the wrestler was separated from his first wife.

It is also possible that they only began dating after his divorce had been formalized. Whichever it is, the couple did not waste any time in tying the knot and did so on the 27th of August 1983. Ric wore an ash suit while his wife dazzled in a white gown. The ceremony attracted wrestling royalty, including famed boxing promoter Jim Crockett, who was the best man.

Their Union Lasted for 23 Years during Which Elizabeth Flair Appeared in Several of her Husband’s WWE Skits

As at the time that Elizabeth Flair wed Ric Flair in 1983, he was already a well-known superstar in the wrestling world with several titles to his name. He, therefore, could afford to live a life of the rich and famous, and this was how they lived for several years during their marriage. He and Elizabeth lived in massive houses and spent thousands of dollars on clothing and dining out each month.

They also accumulated about $750,000 worth of jewelry during their time together. The couple welcomed two children in the course of their marriage, daughter – Ashley, and son – Reid, and were similarly generous towards them.

Both kids had an assortment of luxurious items available to them, including jet skis, boats, Yukon Denali, and Land Rovers. Given how rich Ric was, Elizabeth Flair had no need to work. She rather managed the family’s financial affairs and took care of the kids.

She also appeared in various WCW (World Championship Wrestling) skits and helped to build her husband’s persona. Some of her appearances include Wilder v. Flair: Starrcade (1993), WCW/NOW Starrcade (1998), WCW Monday Nitro TNT (2000), and the Ultimate Ric Flair collection (2003).

The Couple Divorced in 2006 Amidst a Wave of Accusations and Counter Accusations

Elizabeth Flair and Ric Flair had some good times in the course of their marriage, but it wasn’t perfect by any measure. The couple ran into several financial troubles with the authorities as well as banks and private individuals.

They owed more than a million dollars in debt by the time that their marriage was over, and this was thanks to their lifestyle. There was also the case of financial advisers who took advantage of them. The couple also had to contend with a stalker named DeAnn Siden in the course of their marriage. DeAnn was obsessed with Ric and hounded the family for much of the 90s’ decade.

Elizabeth and Ric also exhibited some destructive behavior of their own, and this impacted their kids negatively. By February 2005, Ric moved out of the home and filed for divorce. The divorce proceedings took a year to finalize and was very scandalous. Elizabeth accused Ric of cruel and inhuman treatment, including physical, verbal, and emotional abuse.

She accused him of using steroids and alcohol and prescription drugs abuse with the attendant bouts of rage and violence. She also alleged that he forced her to have sex, used racial slurs on her friends, and exposed his genitalia to strangers and acquaintances. The accusations did not stop there. Elizabeth also claimed that Ric exposed their underage son to alcohol and strip clubs.

Ric Flair fired back with some serious allegations of his own. He described his estranged wife as a physically violent, verbally abusive, and an emotionally unstable person who couldn’t say two words without using the term fuck. He also stated that she was a mean-spirited and belligerent fellow who refused to engage in any meaningful or intimate relationship with him.

He further accused her of being physically and mentally slovenly and telling her kids to fuck off when they approached her. It wasn’t a pretty sight by any means, but the couple later finalized their divorce and went their separate ways. Elizabeth was awarded a lump sum of $140,000, while her ex-husband was also ordered to pay her $15,000 monthly for two years.

Such an ugly divorce and their dysfunctional family unit had a negative impact on the couple’s already suffering kids. Their son, Reid, was arrested for battery and assault in 2007, while their daughter, Ashley, was arrested for assault a year later.

Her Daughter, Charlotte, is a Six-Time Smackdown Women Champion

Since her divorce from Ric Flair, Elizabeth Flair has largely stayed away from the spotlight. Clips of her can be seen in TV shows such as Nature Boy Ric Flair: The Definitive Collection (2008) and Celebrity Wife Swap (2013). A perusal of Elizabeth’s Twitter page doesn’t reveal many personal details about her as she only dedicates herself to supporting issues close to her heart. She also spends time proudly showing off her daughter, Charlotte.

Charlotte (real name – Ashley Elizabeth Fliehr) was born on the 5th of April 1986. She grew up in North Carolina and attended Providence High School as well as North Carolina State University. She has since followed her famous dad’s footsteps into wrestling.

Charlotte first began appearing in the WWE as a participant in skits featuring her dad and mom from the year 2000. She later decided to enter the ring and had her first televised fight at the age of 27 in 2013. She has since gone on to prove that she is the real deal by dominating women’s wrestling.

Her championships include WWE Smackdown Women’s Championships (6x), WWE Raw Women’s Championships (6x), NXT Women’s Championships (2x), Women’s Royal Rumble 2020, and WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships (1x). Charlotte has been married and divorced twice. She is currently engaged to fellow wrestler Manuel Andrade Oropeza.

Her Son, Reid, Died of a Drug Overdose in 2013

Elizabeth Flair also uses her social media accounts to remember her late son, Reid Flair. Reid was born on the 26th of February 1988 in North Carolina. Like his elder sister, he also attended Providence High School and got into wrestling at an early age. He fought on different wrestling platforms, including the World Championship Wrestling, All Japan Pro Wrestling, and the independent circuit. Some of Reid’s fights were solo, while others were tag team efforts with his dad, Ric, and elder half-brother, David Flair. He won a couple of championships, including the Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Championship (1x), WCW United States Heavyweight Championship (2x), and NWA Mid-Atlantic Heritage Championship (1x).

Reid Flair was hoping to achieve more as a wrestler, but his life was cut short due to a drug overdose in 2013. He was only 25 years at the time, and both of his parents mourned his loss. They continue to remember him to this day. They spoke out when they felt that his memory was being utilized as a mere storyline by the WWE in 2015.

During an episode of WWE Monday Night RAW in November 2015, one of Charlotte’s opponents remarked that her little brother didn’t have much of a fight in him. Elizabeth did not take too kindly to this and took to Twitter to make her thoughts known. Several wrestling fans also made it known that the statement was in bad taste.
