Louis Farrakhan’s Children: How Many Kids and Who are They?

Louis Farrakhan has nine children: Betsy-Jean Farrakhan, Louis Farrakhan Jr. Joshua Farrakhan, Donna Farrakhan Muhammad, Mustapha Farrakhan, Abnar Farrakhan, Maria Farrakhan, and Khallada Farrakhan. His oldest child is Betsy while the youngest member of the family is Khallada Farrakhan.

Louis Farrakhan, a religious leader and the head of the Nation of Islam got married to Khadijah Farrakhan in 1953. In the years that followed, they welcomed many kids. Here is a look at all the children of the charismatic and often controversial Muslim minister.

The oldest of Louis Farrakhan’s children is Betsy Jean Farrakhan. Also referred to as Sister Captain Betsy, there is hardly any information about her date of birth, early life, and educational pursuits. It is speculated that she was welcomed by her parents a couple less than a couple of years after they got married.

A most respected individual in the Nation of Islam, she is also a devout Muslim like her dad and a former National MGT-GCC Captain. She is described as a first-generation farmer who has been in the agricultural business for many years. Jean has a farm in New Buffalo, Michigan. In 2015, she gained recognition when she organized the “Michigan Farm-Agriculture Workshop” for the Nation of Islam.

Even though she has kept much about her personal life private, it is no secret that she is married to a man known as Brother Maurice Muhammad with whom she has she has at least one child whose name is Anwar Muhammad. Betsy’s husband works as an engineer.

Betsy Jean Farrakhan has a great relationship with her father and she has always supported him in activities relating to his ministry.

2. Maria Farrakhan

Also known as Maria Farrakhan Muhammad, she is the second oldest daughter of Louis Farrakhan and his wife, Khadijah Farrakhan. She was born around 1956, although the exact date of her birth is not known. Now 68 years old, she is one of the most known of the children of her parents.

As regards her love life, Maria walked down the aisle in February 1975 with Alif Muhamed. the couple met for the first time in the home of Alif’s aunt. At the time the couple got married she was 19 years old while the young man she was marrying was 20 years old. Maria was still a college student and the reception of the marriage was held at Harlem’s Vincent’s Place and it was witnessed by many famous individuals including legendary boxer, Muhammad Ali.

The marriage between Maria Farrakhan and Alif Muhamed is a successful one that has lasted more than 40 years, but there has never been a mention of the two having any kids publicly. That said, it is still possible that they have kids whose details they keep away from the public domain.

For her career life, Maria is considered to be an administrator. After her father survived cancer, he started the the Louis Farrakhan Prostate Cancer Foundation in 2003, and he had his daughter, Maria as the Foundation board member and also the organization’s executive director.

3. Louis Farrakhan Jr.

The oldest son of the Islamic minister is Louis Farrakhan Jr. He was born in 1956 to the older Farrakhan and Khadijah Farrakhan. His mother is an activist who had him a few years after she got married to Louis Farrakhan.

Louis was involved with the Nation of Islam where he handled various projects. However, unlike some of his younger siblings, he did not hold an official position.

As regards his personal life, Louis was married to Lesil Farrakhan and they were blessed with five kids including Khallada Farrakhan who was named after his sister. The year they got married was not made known and although he tried to maintain a private life until his death, he was engulfed in a controversy in 2000 when he was accused of wife battery. He allegedly attacked his pregnant wife following a domestic argument.

Tragedy struck on 2 June 2018 when the younger Farrakhan lost his life in, Phoenix, Arizona, United States, at the age of 60. He was said to have died in his sleep following a heart attack.

Before he died in his home in Phoenix, Arizona, the younger Louis was said to be a designer of clothing and a creator of art. He enjoyed a good relationship with his father and all his activities in contributing to Islam and the emancipation of black and oppressed people.

4. Donna Farrakhan Muhammad

The third of Louis Farrakhan’s children, Donna Farrakhan Muhammad was also born to her father from his marriage to Khadijah. Formerly occupying the role of a “Sister Captain” for the Muslim Girls Training (MGT), her exact date of birth is not known but it is estimated that it could be around 1958. She is a well-respected Minister for the Nation of Islam.

She grew up very close to her father and would accompany and assist her father with the running of the office ministry. It is because of this that it is not surprising that she now works as a minister for the Nation of Islam.

Donna Farrakhan Muhammad was married to Wali Leonard Muhammad who was born Leonard Searcy. The pair got married in 1975. There is no information as regards the number of children they have.

5. Joshua Nasir Farrakhan

Joshua Nasir Farrakhan is the second son of the Islamic preacher to sadly pass away. He was born on January 25, 1957, at the Boston City Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. The second oldest son of the preacher, he was born as the fifth child of the family and was of American nationality like all his other siblings and of African-American ethnic extraction.

Famously called Josh, he was brought up in a large and closely knitted family as one of the closest to his father and mother, Khadija Farrakhan. For his education, Josh who used to be described as someone a little mischievous, went to Kenwood Academy High School in Chicago. From there, he went to Muhammad University of Islam.

A lover of jokes and animals, he was very protective of his father and once served as his watchman. He was said to be the one who got his father to produce his 2013 work, “The Time and What Must Be Done” as well as the documentary, “My Life’s Journey In Music.”

In 1977, when he was 18 years old, Bro. Joshua got married to Sister Marie Muhammad who like Josh, is also a Muslim. She is the daughter of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad and Evelyn Muhammad. The marriage was arranged by Josh’s father-in-law who decided to get the pair to marry each other because he wanted the two families to have a strong bond. The marriage was a success and it was blessed with ten amazing kids; Joshua Jr., Elijah, Louis, Fard, Muhammad, Amey, Khalifah, Sharrieff, and Olivia Bender. He lost his daughter, Melia Farrakhan, years before he died.

In 2001, Josh came close to losing his life after he became a victim of a shooting incident on Chicago’s South Side. Joshua Nasir Farrakhan lost his life on November 18 2023 at the age of 64. He lost his life after suffering from a massive heart attack, before which he was rushed to the hospital after complaining of chest pains. Josh died at the Boston City Hospital. Ironically, he is the second son of the minister to die suddenly of a massive heart attack after Louis Farrakhan Jr.

6. Wallace Mustapha Farrakhan

The next child of Louis Farrakhan is Mustapha Farrakhan who was born Wallace between 1960 and 1961. Now believed to be between 64 and 63 years old, his mother is Khadija Farrakhan who brought him up alongside his 8 siblings.

Although he is very much involved in the activities of the Nation of Islam as the Supreme Captain and his father’s second in command, Mustapha works as a police officer in Harvey, Illinois. In 2013, there was a report that he was being investigated for holding a police department badge even though he hadn’t worked a shift in over four years. It was made known that he was using a Harvey Police Department vehicle which was unmarked and which he used to control traffic for his father.

He has managed to keep a better part of his family life private but it is no secret that he is married to Karen Farrakhan with whom he has several kids including Shaheerah Farrakhan, Nafeesah Farrakhan, and Jamillah Farrakhan. His son, Mustapha Farrakhan Jr. is a basketball player. He played collegiate basketball at the University of Virginia and then he went professional in 2011 when he joined the NBA Development League. He played at different levels and with different teams until 2016 when he called it quits with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Wallace Mustapha Farrakhan has also followed in the footsteps of his older siblings to enjoy a good relationship with his father which is why he was made the Minister’s second in command.

7. Abnar Farrakhan

Abnar Farrakhan was born to the Islamic minister and his wife, Khadijah Farrakhan, although his date of birth is not clear. He is also a devoted Muslim like his parents and other siblings and has a career as a businessman. 

He has not shared much about his marital life but it is no secret that Abnar Farralkahn has a daughter whose name is Rasha Farrakhan. She is a trained nurse who now practices in the United States. He also has a son, Abnar Farrakhan Jr. who was born on September 24, 2001.

The younger Abnar is a basketball player who played high school basketball at De La Salle High School in Chicago before going to play collegiate basketball at Winston-Salem State University. He has hopes of playing professionally.

Needless to say, Abnar who is also referred to as AB, also enjoys a good relationship with his parents and his other family members.

8. Fatimah Farrakhan

Fatimah Farrakhan is the next child of the minister of the Nation of Islam. The date of birth of Fatimah and her age is not available in the public domain as she has always maintained a very low profile unlike most of her other siblings. She is also the daughter of Louis Farrakhan and his wife, Khadija.

She works as a registered nurse and is very close to her dad. When he was diagnosed with Prostate cancer, Fatimah was always by his side to assist him back to health and is regarded as the personal nurse of the preacher.

Even though Fatimah Farrakhan is not the most famous of Louis Farrakhan’s children, she came to be known after her father suffered from the aforementioned condition. She revealed that while he was not fully back on his feet at the time, he was completely free of cancer.

In the same way as the personal details of Fatimah, her marital life is also kept rather hidden. There is hardly any mention of who she might be married to at the moment and it is not clear if she has any kids.

9. Khallada Farrakhan

The youngest child of the family is Khallada Farrakhan. She was born in June 1969 to her parents, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan and her mother Khadijah Farrakhan. Now 54 years old, she has also been fully involved in activities of the Nation of Islam just like all of her other siblings.

As regards her education and what she does for a living, Khallada Farrakhan has kept a better part of that away from the public.

In 1998, Khallada Farrakhan got married to Eurera Mita, an aboriginal New Zealander. The ceremony was held at her parents’ Chicago home. It witnessed the attendance of very close friends and family members. After the wedding, a reception was held for guests at the Salaam Restaurant in Chicago. Also referred to as Khallada F. Mita, she lost her husband, Eruera Kawhia Tuhura Mita “Bob” in December 2016.

Before the death of Eruera, the couple was blessed with kids including Wahia Mita who attended Delphian School where he graduated as part of the class of 2021. While there, he played different high school sports including basketball.
