11 Most Expensive Schools In South Africa

Generally, education is known to be wonderful, interesting and above all, costly. It is the very soul of a society and passes from generation to generation. South African government is one of the many governments that have recognized the immense importance of education and as such made certain that basic education is compulsory. Hence, under the South African Schools Act of 1996, education is compulsory for all South Africans from the age of seven (grade 1) to age 15, or the completion of grade 9. This among other reasons may have contributed to the emergence of South Africa as one of the greatest African countries.

In addition to that, the South African schools (private and public) work hard generally to ensure that they impart quality and adequate knowledge in order to produce problem solvers across the continent and the world at large. For this, they, therefore, require students to pay a certain amount of money. But some private schools are so obviously costlier than others. Read on to see some of the most expensive private schools in South Africa, listed in no particular order.

Hilton College – KwaZulu-Natal Midlands:

Hilton College is a private boarding school for boys located near the town of Hilton in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands and is situated on a 1,762 hectare (4,350 acre) estate that consists of a 550 hectare (1,400 acres) of wildlife reserve in South Africa. This is one of the most expensive private schools in South Africa. It charges R219,500 annually as tuition fee and an entry fee of R52,250. It was founded in 1872 and is one of the remaining pure-boarding schools in South Africa. The big question is, what does R219,500 cover? Regardless of the prestigious location and tradition, R219,500 covers tuition, board games, ordinary medical attention, the utilization of the sanatorium, use of the library, laundry services, basic entertainment which is arranged for all boys, games, transport and simple mending materials. It is pertinent to note that this fee may not cover additional fees such as various levies, IT and infrastructure, as well as further costs for food, extramural activities and trips. Any such fee would be calculated as an extra cost and paid separately. It might feel like much but you sure won’t regret paying it. The landscape is superb too.

You will agree with me that these are some of the most costly schools in South Africa. Always note that most of these schools do not include additional fees to be incurred in the tuition fee. Such fees include various levies such as IT and infrastructure, as well as further costs for food, extramural activities and trips. It can only cover the necessary expenses usually demanded by every other school. However, there is no particular ranking done based on the number of fees presently paid by students of these schools because these fees are liable to be reviewed at any time during the time of study. Have fun spending your money well.
