No, John Travolta insists he is not gay. The celebrated actor has since come out to clear the air after his former pilot, Douglas Gotterba, claimed that they once had a sexual relationship that lasted six years. The allegation and a couple of other claims in that regard have got many questioning John Travolta’s sexuality, but he has stated that the allegation was all about money.
While this was not the first time the actor’s sexuality has been questioned, it is known that he was previously married to Kelly Preston until her death in 2020. Their marriage lasted close to 3 decades and they had two kids, but these have not been enough to settle the issues of his sexual orientation.
Is John Travolta Gay?
As we’ve already stated, John Travolta has come out to make it known that he is not gay. However, there are some allegations in Hollywood that he was involved with a couple of men in the past, allegations that he continues to deny, as he insists that there is a conspiracy to paint him as homosexual.
The person that first accused him of being gay is adult film star, Paul Barresi who claimed in 1990 that they had a relationship that lasted from 1983 to 1985. Barresi alleged that they began dating after the Face Off actor approached him in a gay bathhouse. The man added that they made out dozens of times in the two years that they were together, but he later retracted his allegations, only to claim again that he was pressured into retracting.
It was after this that Douglas Gotterba later came out to also claim that they were a couple for six years. But more than these was a statement by the actor’s friend, Carrie Fisher who once stated that although everyone in Hollywood had always known the actor to be gay, no one really cared.
John Travolta’s Alleged 6-Year Relationship with Douglas
The allegations of a relationship between Douglas “Doug” Gotterba and John Travolta began making the rounds in 2014 when the former spilled the beans. He claimed that they met for the first time in 1981 when he was interviewed to be the actor’s pilot. He claimed that 7 months later, they had already started having an affair.
According to Doug, he remembered the date they started dating because he logged it into a records book. He said it first began with a bottle of merlot wine and then the actor asked if he wanted a massage. This was soon followed by s*x.
The former pilot claimed they went on vacation to Kenya, Amsterdam, and Hawaii and during such trips, the actor would occasionally bring women, although they still spent nights together. He added that Travolta began dating actress Brooke Shields as a cover when he advised him on getting a girlfriend to avoid suspicion.
The relationship between Doug and John ended in 1986 because the actor would always check the pilot’s house believing he was cheating on him. Soon there was tension, and that allegedly led to their breakup.
When they met again in 1992 after John got married to Kelly Preston, Dough claimed the actor told him he still preferred men to women after the former asked about his preference.

In spite of the many claims that the actor is gay, he got married to Kelly Preston and they remained together for 29 years. Their first meeting was in 1987, at a time when she was still married to her former husband, Kevin Gage. The next year, the actress divorced her husband and she dated George Clooney and came close to marrying Charlie Sheen in 1990, but she later broke their engagement.
It was also in that year that Kelly began dating Travolta who claimed it was love at first sight for him after their meeting during a screen test for their film, The Experts.
They got engaged on New Year’s Eve of 1990 and then got married the following year. The marriage was blessed with three kids; Jett (born in 1992) and Ella (born in 2002), and then Benjamin who was born in 2010. Sadly, 2010 was also the year that their first child, Jett died.
Their marriage came to a sad end in 2020 after Kelly lost her life to breast cancer which she battled for two years.
John Travolta Has Not Remarried After Kelly Preston
Since Kelly’s death, John Travolta has not been publicly linked to anyone. Because of this, it is assumed that he is currently single and may not be very interested in dating.
Apart from his wife and the men who claimed to have had romantic dealings with him, John Travolta has dated several women in the past such as Brook Shields, Catherine Deneuve, and Marilu Henner. All the relationships were between the late 1970s and early 1980s.
