Aldrin Sampear’s Qualifications
Aldrin Sampear began his education at Kliptown Primary in Johannesburg. However, not much is known about his schooling history as he has not made public the names of the high school and university he attended or the courses he has taken over the years.
He gave a guest lecture at the University of the Witwatersrand on April 19, 2023. Later, he wrote on his Instagram profile that he had always wanted to attend university but had been unable to pay for it. He further stated that he had been able to enroll there after working and saving money for his education there and was able to graduate from the institution as well.

Sampear is a veteran broadcast journalist, TV presenter, and radio personality who has worked with several media outfits in the country. He began his career on the radio with Kasie FM in 2008 and subsequently garnered experience in the newsrooms of the following local radio outfits: Jozi FM, YFM, and 702.
Sampear left 702 in 2012 for Jacaranda FM, where he covered several historic events, including the Marikana Massacre, as a field reporter – thanks to his passion for political and in-depth reporting.
He spent a couple of years at Jacaranda and was later hired by Power FM, the first post-democracy black-owned commercial radio. He had a productive stint at the station and was one of the first journalists to fine-tune the tone and direction of the media company’s news DNA.
Aldrin joined SABC TV as a Senior Political Journalist in 2014. He left three years later to join eNCA in the same position. His time at eNCA saw him hosting his first political TV show, Polit Bureau, and sitting with the Heads of State and Senior Executives, including the former President of Ghana, Mr. John Mahama, the former President of Liberia, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, and the former President of Mozambique Mr. Joaquim Chissano.

Aldrin Sampear is gay. He came out of the closet in 2020 after many years of being in a secret relationship with his partner. The journalist decided to speak out about his sexual preference on his radio show after the owner of the station encouraged him to do so.
According to Sampear, Given Mkhari, the Chairman of MSG Group and owner of POWER FM, told him he knew there was something about him [Aldrin] he had been holding back. Mkhari would later encourage him to spill it out as it would not change anything among his loyal fans.
