The singer was born in a family of eight and has five siblings. She is the third born in the family and was raised alongside her two brothers and three sisters. As a child, Dorcas Moyo took recognizance of the gift of God in her life to change people’s lives with her singing ministration. Her third album, Zvininipise, was released in 2018, and the next year, the acclaimed gospel singer dropped her 13-tracked fourth album, Ndibatsirei Mwari, followed by the release of another album titled Pamara Tapfuru, in 2020. Furthermore, Dorcas Moyo dropped her seventh album, ‘Bvisai Marara,’ in the following year. Later in April 2022, she displayed her high level of passion and determination to push her music in Zimbabwe and beyond with her eighth studio album titled, ‘Bvudzi Rangu Ramera’.

Moyo moved on to launch her ninth album, Mhanza Haisekwe, at Chancellor Junior School in Mutare on March 11, 2023. The event had performances from top artists, including Joyful Praise, Hosiah Chipanga, Blessing Shumba, and Michael Mahendere. Also, Dorcas Moyo collaborated with many artists in the project, including Sungara maestro Alick Macheso, with whom she released one of the album’s favorite songs, ‘Mhanza Haisekwi’.

The album launch was a huge success, and the discs were bought for $500 and $1,000. The highest price was reportedly paid by South African-based business mogul Ganizani Ganizani, who bought the album for $2,000 to show support to upcoming musicians. Having released an album per year for the past four years, some people have criticized the Mutare-based artist for not giving enough gap between her album releases.

She stated that it’s her right to release her songs as there are no written rules and regulations for the release of music projects. She added that if she had enough songs to be released daily, she would do so. While Dorcas Moyo is managed by Peter Madondo, her music is produced by Olin Anderson of Kunashe Studies. The songstress is backed by the Heavenly Melodies Choir.

Despite beginning her career in 2006, Dorcas Moyo has achieved a blossoming music career thus far. She has released successful tracks like ‘Haakotsire’, ‘Bvisai Marara’, and ‘Zvishavane’. In the year 2021, her songs gained massive airplay, for which she was very grateful to her supportive fans.

On Diamond FM, her song, ‘Bvisai Marara’ came first, and on YA FM, ‘Zvishavane’ took the second spot. Also, on Radio Zimbabwe Gospel Top 50, her song was number four. While ‘Murapi’ came first on Nyaminyami FM, the ‘Bvisai Marara’ music video clinched the eighth position on the ZTV music countdown. Dorcas Moyo Has Been Recognized with Some Coveted Awards

In March 2022, Dorcas Moyo’s years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance paid off as she was announced the winner of the Zimbabwe Music Award (ZIMA) for the Best Traditional Gospel Song. She outclassed Breeze Music, Mambo Dhuterere, and Vabati VaJehovah to win the coveted prize. Moyo further raised the Manicaland flag high when she clinched the prestigious National Arts Merit Award (NAMA) in February 2023.

After failing to take home NAMA the previous year, Dorcas Moyo won her first National Arts Merit Award and was rated as the Outstanding Female Musician in the country. The singer broke down in tears of joy upon receiving the award. She is said to have broken the underperforming streak derailing artists in Manicaland, as only a few musicians in the province (like Blessing Shumba and Hosiah Chipanga) have won the highly-rated award.
