From all indications, Bulelwa ‘Zahara’ Mkutukana has parted ways with DJ Sbu and Thembinkosi Nciza’s record label, TS Records, after six years.
The Eastern Cape-born songstress reportedly left the label in December and there’s no beef between the two parties. Apparently, Zahara left to focus on her own company.
Accordingly, the singer has already established her own company called Zahara Army. The company signs other artists and does community development and events such as netball days.
Zahara said the only reason she had to leave was to grow her career and explore her horizon. However, her departure doesn’t mean she’s cutting ties with the label which she has come to see as a second home.
“I will still work with TS Records whenever they need me or when I need them. It is my second home. Bhuti TK always encouraged me to show that I have grown in the industry. He is like a father to me.
“I know he is proud that I have left to stand on my own. I also realised that he is busy since he became a full-time politician,” Zahara said.
Zahara has done remarkable well under TS Records. Her debut album Loliwe, sold over 100000 copies in 19 days. The album also won the best selling album at the SA Music Awards in 2011.
In addition to Loliwe, Zahara has released two other albums under TS Records, Phendula in 2013 and Country girl in 2015.
Meanwhile, TS Records co-owner TK Nciza, who was responsible for discovering Zahara’s talent and took her in when she came to Joburg from the Eastern Cape, refused to comment on the departure. Instead, he referred all questions to TS Records talent manager Sanele Dlamini.
Speaking on the matter, Dlamini said;
“We have not yet had a sitdown with her with regards to officially terminating her contract but I understand that there is talk about her wanting to grow and expand her career.”
Apparently, Zahara has been so busy she had to press the pause button on arrangements towards her upcoming nuptials.
