Her mother was a high school teacher and her life equally inspired the former beauty queen as she overcame drug addiction. While she refers to her grandmother as her favorite person in the world as she is the wisest and most selfless person she has ever known, Liesl Laurie salutes her mom for surmounting many obstacles she has faced throughout her life. She <a href=\"https:\/\/iharare.com\/watch-former-miss-south-africa-liesl-laurie-mthombeni-surprises-her-grandmother-with-a-car\/\">gifted<\/a> her grandmother a Hyundai car in November 2022.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Liesl Laurie&#8217;s Educational Background<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Dr. Musa Mthombeni&#8217;s better half had her high school education in Johannesburg. Afterward, she proceeded to the <a href=\"https:\/\/buzzsouthafrica.com\/everything-to-know-about-university-of-johannesburg-short-course-and-the-application-process\/\">University of Johannesburg<\/a> (Soweto Campus) and graduated with a B.Com General Degree. Upon her graduation, the 33-year-old pursued a full-time modeling career. She also kickstarted her journey of giving back to her community and country during such a time.<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"auto\"><strong>What Does Liesl Laurie Do For a Living?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Liesl Laurie is a model, radio &amp; TV personality, and social activist. She began her modeling career while in the university and emerged as the Second Princess in the Miss Soweto 2010 pageant. She also was Miss Mamelodi Sundowns&#8217; 2014 Second Princess. As a kid, she would watch the Miss South Africa pageant and promised herself that one day she would take part in the competition.<\/p>\n<p>She then fulfilled her promise to herself when she entered the Miss South Africa 2015 pageant. On March 29, 2015, she won the beauty pageant, beating 11 other finalists, and was crowned Miss South Africa by reigning titleholder, Zipozakhe Zokufa. Following her victory, Liesl Laurie represented South Africa at the 2015 Miss World held in Sanya, China.<\/p>\n<p>She was one of the 114 contestants that participated in the pageantry. Amazingly, she finished among the top ten finalists and then emerged as the Continental Queen of Africa, having been the African contestant with the highest placement at the beauty competition. During her term as Miss SA, Laurie focused on her social activism. She believes she has what it takes to become a beacon of hope in the community.<\/p>\n<p>And thus, has been working as a social activist for some years. She was first associated with a number of non-profit organizations such as Pilgrim Oasis Community Children&#8217;s Outreach and Babies Behind Bars, before establishing her own NPO. She later started hosting her own show titled, <em>The CTM Top 20 with Liesl Laurie<\/em> every Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Later on, she joined Martin Bester as part of Jacaranda FM&#8217;s breakfast show team and was a co-host on the show on weekdays. In 2021, the team bagged the South African Radio Award for Best Breakfast Show.
