The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is saddled with many responsibilities, one of which is the payment of the newly introduced R350 grant to specific people. Have you wondered how to apply for the grant or appeal against certain errors after filling out your form? Was your application declined on certain grounds, and do you want to know what next to do?

SASSA allows individuals to appeal their rejection status so long as you can prove them wrong. All you have to do is provide documents to back your claim and then follow up the reconsideration process. Here’s how to submit your appeal for R350 and the actions to take if your application for the grant is rejected.

What Is SASSA R350 Grant?

Before I talk about what the SASSA Appeal for R350 is all about, it will be worthwhile to talk about the R350 grant first. The R350 grant is a Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant that was introduced by president Cyril Ramaphosa to help certain people in the country cover their expenses.

He launched the initiative after declaring a national state of disaster owing to the Covid 19 global pandemic. The grant is not meant for everyone; instead, it is designed to be paid to unemployed people and caregivers who only receive payment from the state for the job they do.

If you are a recipient of any other grant – be it the social grant, National Student Financial Aid Scheme of South Africa (NSFAS), Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), or you have a source of income, the R350 grant is not for you. The R350 grant is paid per month for six months, and beneficiaries are expected to use it to care for their needs during the pandemic.

What Is SASSA R350 Appeal For?

Once you are unemployed or a caregiver and you want to benefit from the scheme, all you have to do is to apply for the R350 grant. You must back up your unemployment status or the fact that you are a caregiver. You would also need to provide your Identity Number or Department of Home Affairs Refugee permit number, name and surname as captured in the Identity Document, gender, and disability, contact details – cell phone number, as well as your residential address.

The SASSA will then conduct a thorough verification to determine if you are qualified for the grant or not. All received applications for the grant are verified monthly to confirm if the applicants meet the criteria.

If, for any reason, your application was rejected, you would have to appeal for your application to be reconsidered. Well, you can only do this when you are sure you have no job, or you are a caregiver.

If you’ve left your job and your unemployment status did not reflect on SASSA, you are also entitled to file for the SASSA R350 appeal. Once you appeal, the SASSA will take it up from there to either reconsider your application or decline it. You are expected to submit your appeal within 30 days of when you were notified of your declined application.

How To Submit Your SASSA R350 Appeal

Submitting your appeal is a compulsory step you must take to make the SASSA have a second look at your application. You need an internet-friendly device to lodge your appeal online.

As published by the South African Government online, you can submit your appeal through the following steps.
