World’s Highest-paid Actors 2017: Guess Who Raked In The Millions?

Former rapper and American actor Mark Wahlberg made it to the top of Forbes World’s highest-paid actors 2017 list against all odds.

Mark, 46, who earned an estimated $68 million before taxes between June 2016 and June 2017, was named the world’s highest paid actor on Tuesday.

The rapper-turned-actor edged out last year’s top earner, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, thanks to earnings from action flick, Transformers: The Last Knight and forthcoming comedy sequel Daddy’s Home 2, due out in November.

His earnings also added up from his AT&T endorsement deal and his family’s A&E reality series, Wahlburgers. Notably, his Transformers outing was the lowest-grossing film of the franchise to date.

Meanwhile, Johnson who ranked No.1 in 2016 dropped to the No.2 spot this year with $65 million. This after starring in the big screen reboot of lifeguard action-comedy Baywatch and appearing in HBO comedy Ballers. Nevertheless, this is still a modest improvement from the TV star and former wrestler’s $64.5-million payout from 2016, which saw him displace three-time list-topper Robert Downey Jr.

Notably, the recent Forbes list further highlighted the controversial wage gap between actors and actresses in Hollywood. The top ten men continue to out-earn their female counterparts by a huge margin – $488.5m compared with just $172.5m. This is a disparity Forbes attributed in part to the numerous of superhero movies and action blockbusters that offer few starring roles for women.

La La Land star and Oscar winner Emma Stone topped Forbes’ list of highest-paid actresses last week. However, her earnings of $26 million cannot hold a candle to Mark’s earnings on the list of highest-paid actors 2017.

In fact, the three highest-paid actresses – Emma Stone, Jennifer Lawrence and Jennifer Aniston were the only ones who earned more than $20 million within a year.

Earning estimates are based on a 12-month pre-tax scoring period from Nielsen data, box office numbers, IMDB and industry insiders.
