Sneziey Msomi is 30 Years Old

Idols SA season 15 runner-up Sneziey Msomi was born on July 23rd, 1994. Her place of birth is Umlazi in Durban. Her late mother gave birth to her at the age of 16. Tragically, she passed away when Sneziey was only four years old.

The gospel artist grew up without her father being present in her life. Sneziey’s father denied her at birth. Nevertheless, she had many fatherly figures while growing up, as she lived with her maternal uncles at her grandmother’s house.

The Songstress was Raised in Durban By Her Grandmother

Sneziey Msomi was raised in Umlazi, Durban, by her granny, with whom she had a close relationship. Her Ugogo was passionate about singing and thus, introduced Sneziey to music when she was still very young. The gospel singer grew up singing at Sunday School as she always followed her grandmother to church.

One of her most memorable moments on Idols was when her grandmother was flown from Umlazi to the Idols SA show to witness her performing live on stage. Sadly, Sneziey Msomi lost her granny in 2021 and it was tough for her to cope without her presence in her life. This is because her Ugogo had been her support system and cheerleader all her life.

She Joined Idols SA to Fulfil Her Mother’s Dream

With the belief that her mother’s spirit lives on through her, Sneziey Msomi joined Idols SA season fifteen as a contestant in July 2019. She wanted a booming professional career in music as her mother’s dream of making it big in music was ended by death. Soon after joining the popular singing competition, Sneziey’s singing prowess established her as a force to be reckoned with on the show.

On one occasion, she got a standing ovation for delivering an impeccable performance that brought former Idols SA judge Unathi Nkayi to tears. She also won Mzansi over with her powerful voice and contagious laugh on the show. Despite being embroiled in a bullying scandal that got her trending on social media and her reputation dented, the 30 years old moved on to claim second place on the show.

She lost the first spot to Luyola Yiba, who walked away with a cash prize of R1 million, among other gifts. Sneziey Msomi, on the other hand, received a compensation of R180,000 as runner-up.

What Does Sneziey Msomi Do for a Living?

Sneziey Msomi is a gospel artist and plus-size model. Even though she denied the allegation of bullying the Qwabe twins on Idols SA, the scandal negatively affected her career growth when she left the show. Nonetheless, she has forged on with her musical journey and released her debut studio album in 2020.

Meanwhile, in 2019, while on Idols SA, the Umlazi native dropped her debut single, ‘Knugumusa’. She followed it up with the release of her second single titled, ‘Ungubaba’ in the next year before releasing her album, ‘Izulu’ in August 2020. Her second single was well received by Mzansi as it peaked at No. 2 on iTunes. Sneziey Msomi wrote all the songs in her highly anticipated 12-track album.

She worked with Siyanqoba Mthethwa, a pianist and music producer, in composing the album. And it featured artists like Dumi Mkostad, Johnny Vilakazi, and Futhi Nhlapho. Though at the nascent stage of her career, Sneziey Msomi has been nominated for a South African Music Award.

Interestingly, the talented singer has not only stolen Mzansi’s heart with her music career endeavors but also with her efforts as a plus-size model. Having experienced body-shaming for her plus-size body while on Idols SA, Sneziey joined forces with Lesego Legobane, professionally known as ThickLeeYonce, to encourage plus-size women to be proud of their bodies.

Sneziey has always been a big girl and so has learned to embrace her body size. In recent years, she has been modeling clothing collections from ThickLeeYonce’s plus-size clothing label to show how proud she is to be a plus-size woman.
