Despite the disappointment of not winning the top prize at the competition, it did not stop her from being successful in her musical career, seeing that she has gone beyond that to make a name for herself in the South African gospel music industry.

The singer was born on the 26th of February in 1992 into the family of Disego Moremi and Lucky Moraila who raised her in Zebeidelia, Limpopo, South Africa. While Moremi Was In Pre-school, Her Teachers Observed Her Love For Singing

Moremi’s successful career in music is not a surprise to many, especially, her teachers in pre-school as her passion for singing was evident even then. At that time, her teacher observed how much she loved singing as she always sang at the school assembly. At the age of 10, news about how she crashed a band performance and sang before the entire Zebeidelia community where she grew up went viral and that was how she started getting invites to perform at events and weddings.

During her secondary school days at Dereke Kobe Secondary School, Mmatema Moremi continued to gain attention for her outstanding singing talent and by the time she moved to Matladi Secondary School, she started making covers of songs from some of her favorite artists.

Despite all the traction she was getting for her music talent around the Zebeidelia community, her parents were not in favor of her making music a major career pursuit and while she lived under their roof, she could only do it part-time.

On that first try, she was not selected to continue to the next stage. This did not deter her from trying again the following season. She auditioned again the next season, and this time, she made it to the group stage before she eventually got evicted from the show.

Being someone who does not allow failure to distract her, she took up the challenge of auditioning again in 2015, and this time, she made it to the final stage but did not win the competition despite all her sensational performances that earned her a huge fan base.

Despite Her Loss On Idols SA, She Was Able To Win The Hearts Of Producers

It was so obvious to everyone that Mmatema Moremi deserved to win the 2015 Idols SA even though she lost to a worthy opponent in the person of Karabo Mogane. It even made headlines on the Daily Sun that she was robbed of the prize.

Whether she was robbed or the actual winner was deserving, what matters is that through her journey in the reality TV show, she was able to gain fans, as well as the attention of Universal Music South Africa who signed her on after the show – even though she did not stay long with them. She soon left the label to start a career in gospel music under her own label – Mmatema Moremi Media Production.

She has now gone ahead to release an original single titled ‘Because of You’ and it was produced by DJ Cleo. Moremi was a part of the South African music band, Durban Finest’s latest project and she has also worked on opening sequence on SABC shows.

Mmatema Met Her Husband in Her Journey to Fame

The journey to fame was certainly not an easy path as it was full of hurdles for Moremi but she met her man in the midst of it all, and today, they are happily married.

She met her husband, Tshepo Gavu, also known as Mr G at an audition she attended as part of a choir – Gavu was the sound engineer for the event but little did they know that life had bigger plans for them. On another occasion, a conversation sparked off between them and from there they became good friends. It was actually not a case of love at first sight for the two.

Moremi Is Happily Married With A Child

At the time Mmatema Moremi was getting to know Mr G, she was in a relationship with someone else. However, as soon as she bonded with Gavu, she ended the relationship. One may think that she immediately rushed into her relationship with Mr G but that was not the case. Though she was in love with him, she still wanted to be very sure that she was ready to be his wife, and as such, Tshepo Gavu had to propose to her three times before she finally said yes to him.

Their wedding took place in 2018 at her home village in Moletlane, near Zebediela. Moremi adorned a beautiful red Sepedi ball gown while Gavu wore a gold senator top and trousers. South African big shots such as Julius Malema and Mbuyiseni Ndlozi were some of the crème de la crème guests that attended the wedding.

In September 2019, when the country was faced with xenophobic issues and the entire county was tensed, the couple announced the good news that they were expecting a baby and in October 2019, they announced the birth of their son, Ethan Gavu.
