Growing up in Maseru, Fikile Mthwalo attended Machabeng International College from 2001 to 2005. She eventually moved to Bloemfontein, South Africa, and furthered her secondary school education at St. Michael’s School for Girls, completing her Matric in 2007. Two years later, she enrolled at the University of Cape Town.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Film and Video Production in the year 2012. Still aiming for higher educational qualifications, Fikile moved to New York City in the United States in 2015 for a Graduate Acting program. She earned a full scholarship to attend New York University’s Tish School of Arts and graduated with a Master’s degree in 2018.

After completing her studies at the University of Cape Town, Fikile Mthwalo joined Gambit Films as a production coordinator in 2012. She also worked as an intern at Homebrew Films in that same year. In April 2020, Atandwa Kani’s significant other established Glubbs – a biodegradable disposable glove company in the New York City Metropolitan Area. The company sells medical-grade examination gloves in varieties of colors and designer prints. The gloves come in convenient travel sizes, and Glubbs aim to manufacture sustainable gloves that break down 10 times faster than conventional gloves in a biologically active landfill.

As part of American Express’ Founders of Change Initiative to provide financial and educational assistance to 100 black female business owners, Fikile Mthwalo’s Glubbs received American Express grant and mentorship prize.
