DJ Sbu is currently single but was previously engaged to Disebo Makatsa. However, their engagement was called off following allegations of Makatsa seeing another man. Since then, DJ Sbu is yet to slip the ring into another woman’s finger or exchange the marital vows with someone.
Originally born Sbusiso Leope, DJ Sbu is one of the most successful entertainers in South Africa. He has been in the limelight since the late 1990s, when he launched his career with a broadcasting station. Today, he has over five active income streams, making him of the richest entertainers in the country.
Who Has DJ Sbu Dated?
Mr. Leope has been linked to about three women in the past. His first documented relationship was with Disebo Makatsa, after which he dated a high-profile South African celebrity. Rumour has it that the third woman was a student; however, the celebrity DJ denied having anything to do with her.
Let’s find out more about these women.
1. Terry Pheto
DJ Sbu’s first documented relationship with South African actress Terry Pheto. There is no information about how and where they met. However, their relationship became public knowledge in 2009.
Unfortunately, their love for each other fizzled out one year later, in 2010. It was said that the actress broke up with the sensational musician due to his ‘bad publicity, which allegedly impacted the actress’s L’Oreal ambassadorship.
Pheto, in a 2016 interview with Anele, denied breaking up with her lover due to bad publicity. However, she shied away from disclosing the cause of their breakup but insisted that she and the DJ are still friends and that she respects him so much.
Born Moitheri Pheto on 11th May 1981 in Mahikeng, Terry is a popular actress who rose to prominence for playing a lead role (Miriam) in the 2006 Oscar-winning feature film, Tsotsi.
She launched her career in 2005 and has starred in several high-grossing projects, including The Bold and The Beautiful (2011), How to Steal 2 Million (2012), and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (2013).
Pheto, who won the Africa Movie Academy Awards for Best Actress in a supporting role and the Golden Horn Award for Best Supporting Actress in How to Steal 2 Million (2012), is currently married to South African Infotech mogul Masande Peter. They tied the knot in 2019 and are blessed with one kid.
2. Disebo Makatsa
DJ Sbu and Disebo Makatsa got connected after his breakup with Pheto. No one knows precisely when, how, and where they met for the first time. However, their relationship was thrust into the limelight when they got engaged in 2013.
Two years later, the pair broke up amidst rumors that Disebo was cheating on DJ Sbu with Edwin Sodi, a South African multimillionaire businessman. Disebo later denied cheating on Leope and insisted that they separated amicably.
It is said that her relationship with Edwin didn’t last either, as the latter dumped her for a younger and more beautiful woman called Kefilwe Mabote afterward.
Makatsa was born in Welkom, Free State, South Africa. Her mother’s name is Shirley, but her father is unknown, and there’s no public information about her parents’ origin, her background, childhood, or upbringing. She only found fame after she started dating DJ Sbu.
She was a student of Epworth School, Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, from where she moved on to study at the University of Pretoria. She graduated from the University of Pretoria with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geoscience in 2007. Moving on from there, she was admitted into Wits Business School for New Managers Programme.
She also enrolled for a postgraduate degree in Production Data Management at the same Wits Business School, graduating with a Post Graduate Diploma in 2011. Equally, in 2011, she decided to go further by enrolling for her Master’s in Commerce and Management, at the same Wits Business School, from where she bagged an MBA in 2012. She’s a true alumnus of Wits Business School.
Her achievements in her education gave her the right foundation she needed to launch into a promising career. She was employed in 2008 as a Technical Services Planner at Central Rand Gold. She left in 2011 to start work at Pan-African Resources in Johannesburg, which is a subsidiary of the Shanduka Group (Pty) Ltd.
Her role there as of date is Group Project Manager. She is also the CEO of Sibusiso Leope Education Foundation, popularly known as SLEF. The foundation is an award-winning and non-profit organization founded by DJ Sbu, which focuses on helping and empowering the youth through education.
3. Boitmelo Mahlase
In 2016, there were rumors that DJ Sbu was dating a student in Johannesburg called Boitumelo Mahlase. He, however, claimed that it was all lies, voicing his disappointment in the article published by a weekly tabloid newspaper, which carried the news.
DJ Sbu insisted that he had never met the young lady before and that she was just like a sister to him. He declared that he offers help to students through his foundation, not dating them.
Who is DJ Sbu’s Babymama?
Her name is Disebo Makatsa. Their relationship, which spanned between 2013 and 2015, produced a beautiful baby girl called Waratwa Leope. She was born on 28th October 2014 in South Africa.
Although DJ Sbu and Disebo are no longer together, they’ve remained friends and have been co-parenting their daughter. Waratwa lives with her father in his sprawling mansion equipped with an in-built recording studio.

Who Is DJ Sbu Dating Now?
DJ Sbu is presumed to be single at the moment. Since his last relationship ended, he has never introduced any woman as his girlfriend or wife-to-be.
The radio jock may have had his fair share of ups and downs in relationships, with none of them leading to marriage, but that doesn’t mean he’s no longer interested in getting married.
Although he is presumed to be single as he is not dating anyone presently, he once mentioned during an interview on SABC 3’s Real Talk with Azania Mosaka that he’s ready to settle down.
He also posted a tweet sometime in 2019, addressing his ‘future wife’ and telling the imaginary lady how he has never been married. DJ Sbu added that he still doesn’t know how they will meet and when. However, he assured her that she would marry a billionaire.
Dear future wife: Wonder who u dating now, where u are, what type person u are, what do u do, how are we going to meet, where, will I know from the start u the one, etc. Never been married. So many Qs. I know nothing about U. All I know is that you going to marry a billionaire 😘 pic.twitter.com/Lxri8xt9My

Has DJ Sbu Ever Been Married?
No. He has never exchanged marital vows with any woman. He would have done so if not for his messy breakup with Makatsa, which resulted in their engagement being called off. Disebo has been living a quiet life since she left the spotlight, and it is not clear if she is married, dating someone, or still single.
A Look At The Controversies and Scandals The Famous Entertainer’s Love Life Has Survived Over The Years
Apart from DJ Sbu’s dramatic breakup with Disebo, his controversial relationship with Pheto, the allegations that clouded their separation, and his rumored involvement with Mahlase are the only controversies and scandals his love life has faced.
Ever since Terry came out to set the records straight about how her relationship with the kwaito musician ended, nothing has been heard about the two again. Also, DJ Sbu statement on his alleged relationship with Boitumelo helped put the rumor to rest, even though the young lady did not deny, confirm, or even react to the report.
