They began a romantic relationship and tied the knot on the 28th of August 2004. Right from the get-go, the couple knew that they wanted multiple children.<\/p>\n<p>They luckily welcomed a biological child together about two years into marriage. They wanted to try for more, but the fact that Mariska was already well into her 40s made it a bit of a daunting task. It was one filled with several <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/parents\/adoption-mariska-hargitay-good-housekeeping\/\">heartaches<\/a>, but all of this proved to be worth it when they adopted Amaya Josephine in April 2011. Heading into the journey, Hargitay and her husband had previously decided that they were open to building a multiracial family, so they gladly took Amaya, who is African-American.<\/p>\n<p>They were there during her birth and shared some very emotional moments with the birth mother before taking her home. Amaya\u2019s birth and adoption made the news, given her famous parents. Mariska granted a few interviews in which she described the little girl as surprisingly so alert and full of love. Her parents provide a wonderful and enviable life for her. For instance, the home is a multi-million dollar farmhouse that her parents purchased in 2010. It has 11 bedrooms and six and a half bathrooms. There is also a pool house, a tree house, a swing set, and a basketball hoop for her and her siblings.<\/p>\n<p>The name of the school that Amaya Josephine attends is not known, but given her age, she will be in middle school.
