At her grandmother&#8217;s feet, the young designer learned the basics of making clothes, a talent that would make her a millionaire in the next few years.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Selangie Built Her Fashion Empire From A Fashion Blog<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Selangie&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vibe.com\/features\/editorial\/selangie-arlene-fashion-feature-447307\/amp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first step to becoming a fashion guru<\/a> was becoming a fashion blogger. When she was still in high school, she and her friends created a Tumblr account where she showcased various custom-made prom dresses and important fashion tips. It was from the platform that she leveraged enough to join Instagram.<\/p>\n<p>The New Yorker soon got tired of making those custom dresses, as she didn&#8217;t want to be seen as just a seamstress, so she decided to do something more unique instead\u2014hence the birth of SEL. The brand is popular for its luxurious evening gowns and its statement chokers. Soon, Selangie was taking creative risks of her own.<\/p>\n<p>That year, her career turned for the best after meeting New York Journalist Azia Celestino, who wanted a customized Sel gown for the 2015 Grammys red carpet. And so Selangie, who was only 20 years old at the time, debuted on the red carpet &#8211; at the Grammys, for that matter.<\/p>\n<p>This sparked off a string of other career successes. This was a huge success, with celebrities like Winnie Harlow and Saweetie proudly rocking the label. In 2018, when she was only 23, Selangie released another collection of designs named &#8216;Expos\u00e9.&#8217; This sultry yet elegant collection was aimed at making women confident, no matter how revealing their outfits were.<\/p>\n<p>The presentation was held at the Fashion Week in Paris in partnership with Higher Dining on September 28, 2018, at the Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9es building.\u00a0Her latest project, SEGEL, is coming soon.
