It, therefore, means that she has Canadian nationality. It also means that she is about 11 years older than her famous husband.<\/p>\n<p>While this is a significant gap, Sidhu and her husband have several things in common, and one of them is their ethnic heritage. Both were born in Canada to parents of Punjabi descent, an ethnic group that is commonly found in Indian as well as Pakistan. As is common knowledge, Singh&#8217;s parents migrated to Canada in search of the proverbial better life, which will likely also be the case with Sidhu&#8217;s parents.<\/p>\n<p>That information doesn&#8217;t exist for sure, but we know that even though she was born in Canada and has spent all her life in Canada, Sidhu&#8217;s parents and paternal grandmother, Jangir Kaur, did not let her forget her heritage.<\/p>\n<p>They instilled a love for Punjabi culture in both Sidhu and her sister, Anupreet, and both girls carried it with them throughout their school days and beyond. Even before then, the couple knew each other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.narcity.com\/jagmeet-singh-gurkiran-kaurs-love-story-is-incredibly-beautiful\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">as far back as 2010<\/a> but were only friends. They stayed in that friend zone for a while and only began dating in 2017. Once they commenced a romantic relationship, things progressed quickly between Sidhu and Singh. After some months of dating, they joined hands together with their family to organize a traditional rokha ceremony (the rokha ceremony indicates that the courtship phase of a relationship has ended and that the traditional wedding is next) in December 2017.<\/p>\n<p>A few months after the rokha, Sidhu, and Singh formerly got engaged in January 2018. For the engagement, the couple organized a small private party for their closest family members at a vegetarian restaurant where they had their first date. In line with their Punjab culture, the wedding featured several ceremonies that were held in Mexico and Sidhu&#8217;s hometown of Brampton.<\/p>\n<p>The first part of the ceremonies was the Sangeet, an event for the ladies filled with music and dancing. The couple later flew down to Mexico, where they had a destination wedding and also spent their honeymoon.<\/p>\n<p>Gurkiran Kaur Sidhu officially became Jagmeet Singh&#8217;s Wife on the 22nd of February 2018, and their marriage has been going well since that time.
