Rosemary Margaret Hobor Was Born In The Late 1940s

Rosemary Margaret Hobor was born on August 30, 1949, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Her birth sign is Virgo, which accurately epitomizes all her creative and artistic abilities. She belongs to the white Caucasian ethnic group and holds dual citizenship.

Her status as a Canadian citizen is down to the fact that she was born in Canada and also because both her yet-to-be-identified parents are Canadian citizens. Rose’s status as an American citizen is primarily because she moved to the United States shortly after her husband’s death and has lived there ever since as a naturalized citizen.

As previously mentioned, besides the well-established premise that her parents are Canadian citizens, not much is known about Rosemary Margaret’s parents, including what they do/did for a living to provide for and take care of a young Rosemary. She is yet to reveal any substantial fact about her birth family and this has duly impacted any knowledge of any siblings she might have.

Rosemary spent her formative years in her hometown of Ontario, Canada, where she attended the famous all-girls high school Notre Dame High School which ran as a sister school to the all-boys Neil McNeil Catholic High School. Afterward, she proceeded to Ontario College of Arts and Design University (OCADU) where she bagged a degree in Material Arts & Design.

Rosemary And Her Late Husband Were High School Sweethearts

Rosemary Margaret Hobor met her late husband, John Candy, when they were both still in high school. At the time, John was a student at Neil McNeil Catholic High School. However, it wasn’t until after high school that Rosemary and John became a couple. It is believed that they started dating sometime in 1969, as reported by several outlets.

Rosemary and her husband were set up on a blind date that had been organized by their mutual friends. To say that the connection they felt was instant would be stating the obvious because Rose and John became inseparable after that and they carried on as a couple for the next decade or so.

Prior to his death, John Candy was a hilarious Canadian actor who was born on October 31, 1950, in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada. Brought up in a working-class Catholic family, John was the son of Sidney James Candy (1920-1955) and Evangeline Candy (nee Aker) (1916-2009).

John’s acting career included roles in notable comedy and dramatic movies such as Stripes (1981), Splash (1984), Uncle Buck (1989), Only the Lonely (1991), and JFK (1991) amongst several others. Aside from his acting career, John was also an entrepreneur who was co-owner of the Toronto Argonauts, a football team who plays in the Canadian Football League, and other business Franchises. At his death, he was reportedly worth an estimated $15 million.

She Became John Candy’s Wife In 1979

Everyone who knew the couple in those days instinctively knew they’d end up as a married couple and they met everyone’s expectations when they eventually tied the knot on April 28, 1979. The wedding ceremony was held at St. Basil’s Church in Toronto, Canada.

After the wedding, Rosemary and John continued to reside in Toronto and built a beautiful family together. They never recorded any public feud or any kind of controversy that would have caused the Paparazzi to set up camp on their doorsteps. They were happily married for 14 years until John’s death on March 4, 1994, while he was filming Wagons East, in Durango, Mexico.

An autopsy revealed that the cause of his death was a heart attack that ultimately proved fatal for the late actor. He had a history of binge eating to relieve stress and reportedly weighed around 300 lbs at one point in his life. Added to the history of reckless nutrition was a genetic history that also saw Rosemary’s father-in-law succumb to the same disease when he was just 35.

According to the couple’s children, Rosemary’s late husband was not aware of this genetic history as he was only five years old when his father died. John was just a few months shy of his 44th birthday when he died. Although he died in Mexico, his remains were relocated to the United States and he is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery, Culver City, California, United States.

Rosemary Margaret Hobor Is A Mother of Two

During the 14 years that she was married to John Candy, Rosemary became pregnant twice and those pregnancies resulted in the birth of two children. She had her first child, a daughter named Jennifer Anne Sullivan (nee Candy), on February 3, 1980. Over four years later, she welcomed her second child and son, Christopher Michael Candy on September 23, 1984.

Both her children have unsurprisingly followed in their father’s footsteps as actors. Jennifer is a film producer and an actress who has appeared in several movies including but not limited to In Vino, Where’s This Party?, and Liv & Maddie. Chris is also an actor who is credited with movies such as To The Stones, Contracted, and Where’s This Party? appearing alongside his big sister in the latter.

Rosemary is also a grandmother via her daughter Jennifer who is now married to Bryan Sullivan. Rose’s granddaughter’s name is Finley Candy Sullivan. Rosemary’s son on the other hand appears to be still sowing his wild oats and is still unmarried as of the time of writing.

Rosemary Margaret Hobor Lives In California

Recall that a few years after losing her husband, Rosemary Margaret Hobor and her children reportedly moved to the United States and settled in Los Angeles, California. Rose still lives there to date and owns an art studio named Rose Candy Studio in Santa Monica, a part of the city where she has lived for over two decades.

Rosemary has utilized her Material Arts & Design degree to establish a career for herself. Her studio features most of her work as a ceramicist and an abstract painter. In the 1970s, she taught as a visiting artist in Toronto for about eight years after receiving a grant from the Ontario Arts Council.

Rosemary is also quite invested in charity organizations, having worked with the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatrics AIDS Foundation, a foundation focused on preventing HIV infection in children and other young people. She has also teamed up with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, another children-oriented foundation set up to grant the wishes of children with critical or terminal diseases/illnesses.

Rosemary never remarried and at over 70 years of age, it is unlikely that she ever will. She appears quite content to live out the rest of her life focused on the living members of her family and her career as an artist. Something that has become second nature to her after the initial devastation that followed the loss of her dearly beloved husband.
